Greetings Kevin and Welcome! I'm down here in Granite Bay (Roseville). Rick

Hi all, I've been asked to make a full-flap holster for a 6" model 19. The actual gun is not available for measurements, and all I have are N-frame Smiths. Anyone know of a source for a 19-4 dummy gun? Thx, Rick

Sorry Bruno Rock......not familiar with any European suppliers.

Bruno Rock, www.standardrivet.com www.ohiotravelbag.com e-Bay sellers: Cowgirl Kathy's Behind the Wire all of the above have them in various sizes and finishes. Should add that they're called parachute spots.

Thank you Bob....that makes things easy! Do you happen to stock (or know where to get) a drop down guide for 441 clones (Cobra 4 specifically, if that matters)? Rick
-
Thanks for the response Wizcraft. I have an email in to Steve, but it'll be tomorrow before he sees it. I figured the holes could be either metric, Singer, or even SAE......better to know for sure than to bugger things up! Thanks again Wiz......I've read pretty much everything you and others have posted about sewing machines here on LW, and can't thank you enough for your wise council and advice. You've saved many of us from the heartache of misguided purchases (those that listen anyway). Your experience is invaluable and always on the mark. I don't post all that often, and just wanted to express my appreciation for your guidance and information. Regards, Rick

Hey all, I have a drop down roller guide that I want to attach to my Cobra 18. Question is: Can anyone tell me what the screw size is for the threaded holes as shown by the arrows in the attachment? Thanks, Rick

Cletus2014, Yep, it's hard not to go overboard with the praise......I'll just say that it's really neat to have tools that you don't have to fight with......makes it so much easier to concentrate on actually making stuff and not having to compensate for crappy implements. I got the Klenda round knife, the Wharncliff trim knife, and the pull cut #1. Amazing (to me) how thin you can slice and dice. For the first time, I can actually do a decent job of skiving with my round knife (trust the blade Grasshopper!). Glad you are having the same awakening with your new knives. Rick

Received my three new Knipschield knives last weekend.....WOW! What a difference a SHARP edge makes. These things cut through the thick stuff like it's butter. I have to keep telling myself that these aren't Tandy blades and I don't have to use nearly as much downward pressure. Been cutting like a mad dog, and haven't even come close to re-honing. I never knew what sharp is until I got these. Kudos to Terry.......I'm a happy guy. Rick

Hey F.J., I just went through this with my Cobra 18......Go to YouTube and do a search for Consew 206RB. Look at the video by user Survival Citizen. It is in HD and very clear and concise. If your machine doesn't have the post as the first threading 'station', but rather the 6-hole horizontal plate, look at the YouTube video "How to Thread a Techsew 4400 Walking Foot Industrial Sewing Machine" courtesy of TechSew Ron. Hope this helps. Rick

Ron, Thanks for posting the video link......it helped tremendously! Got things working as they should, tensions properly adjusted, stitches look good and now I'm ready to make something. JLS, Yeah, I'm a little disappointed with the documentation......the diagrams/drawings are not very accurate renditions of the machine that was shipped to me. Fortunately, I just needed a nudge on the threading issue and now it's all good. Thanks again for your comments/assistance. Rick

Burgundy Belt, Holster & Mag Pouch
Bigpaws replied to Josh Ashman's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Josh, That is one of the best looking rigs that I've seen! Very clean, well executed. Simple but beautifully done. -
Hey folks, I just received my new Cobra 18 yesterday and am having difficulty with the treading. The "manual" is of little to no help. The detail is horrible and my machine has parts on it that don't show up in the diagram. I tried following the test threading that came with the machine, but it all went bad when I got to the two tension(?) discs.....the instructional diagram only shows one disc as well as "hooks" that don't show up on the actual machine. I did a YouTube search for something akin to the Al Bane video for the Cobra 4, but no luck. Anyone have a good threading diagram or source for threading the Cobra 18. I have a Cobra 4 as well and love Steve's machines and customer service, but the manual could use a good makeover! Thanks in advance, Rick

Cobra Class 4 Top Stitch Not Laying Straight
Bigpaws replied to McLestergl's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Good deal Bill! Glad you got things going in the right direction. When I first read your post, I thought you were talking about random, unpredictable zig zags. Sounds like Dan had the right answer with the change of needles (and needle point styles?). You're gonna love this machine..... Take care, Rick -
Cobra Class 4 Top Stitch Not Laying Straight
Bigpaws replied to McLestergl's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Bill, Have you checked to make sure the needle is all the way in? (Ask me how I know!). I'm just a newbie too, having had my Cobra 4 for only a couple of months so that's all I can offer.....but fully seating the needle took care of my "errant stitch" problem. Rick -
FD, When you remove the feed dog, you still have the needle and the presser foot feeding the machine. The right presser foot is the one that goes on the right side of the presser foot bar. I may be wrong (being a new Cobra 4 user as well), but I think that all of the presser feet are used alone. The stirrup plate is the one with the shorter (looking front to back) shoulder. The other is a holster plate. If you go to Cobra's web site under accessories, you can see the difference between all of the plates and feet. Rick

In looking at the attachments for say the 111 class machines, I got to wondering why the whole mechanism couldn't be screwed down to flat table machine regardless of make/model/size? all you're doing is folding binding material around your base material. The machine would feed everything through, no? Wouldn't need to worry about matching the binder to a specific machine type. Why couldn't you even have interchangeable folding cones for different sized materials that slid into a receiver slot on the binder plate? A variation on the binder "cone" could even be a corded welting setup (to make the corded welting, not to sew it on -- guess that would still require a grooved, specialized walking foot). Buy one binder/attachment plate and multiple folding cones based on your preferences. Just some thoughts from an admitted noob to sewing. At any rate, thanks for y'all for taking the time to respond. Just want to say that I have been lurking on this forum for close to a year now, and have tremendous respect for the body of knowledge you all are willing to share. Great site, great folks.

Hey all, I recently bought a Cobra 4 and was wondering if anyone makes a binding foot attachment for this class of machine? Also curious if a welting/piping foot is available.
-
Tagglewing, I recently received my new Cobra 4. The lamp camp with no plug....bare wires only. A trip to my local Ace hdwe. and I was in business. Did yours come with or without the built in bobbin winder?

Here is another photo of the taps. oops....file to big to upload. Will try again.
-
Hey AndyH, Here is a pic of the taps.....will get a pic of the bucking rolls tomorrow (saddle is not here). Nothing real fancy, as it was my first attempt. The taps are fully lined and hand stitched. Lots of mistakes, but my next pair will be better. The lacing gave me fits......still not happy with the start/finish. Also, the color turned out way redder than I wanted. I used Feibing's Saddle Tan and should have diluted it....live and learn. Rick

New Cobra4 Keeps On Keepin' On (Literally)
Bigpaws replied to Bigpaws's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Just a FYI followup. Steve just returned my call and guided me through the fix. Removed the lever plate, adjusted the light beam interrupt flap, and we're good to go. Thanks Steve. -
King's X, Thanks for the welcome. Northmount <alt 013> works (010 - nada), thanks for the tip. Bruce, Small world, eh? I probably won't see Christine until spring....if you run into her before then, tell her Rick Hann said "hey".
