  1. hi, i had a similar thing happen on one of the first ipad covers i made, i used a dauber, but now i use sponges, put plenty on and move it around alot, circular motion after straight lines etc, just dont let it dry in to quickly, and keep adding untill its uniform ;-)
  2. hi everyone, im looking for help as always ;-) i have just had a request from an american friend. she has just got herself a smith and wesson 38 with a 4" barrel. she is a zombie nut and wants me to make her a holster with the toxic logo on, problem is,obviously here in the uk i cant get hold of the same gun to use as a template, can anyone link me to a pattern i can download, she also wants it to secure around the leg. thanks for the help ;-)
  3. thanks again, i have to admit i have been using the outer edges and was working my way in, so that may have something to do with it. ;-) and yes dwight your math is spot on lol .
  4. hi guys, thanks for the advice, and sorry it wasnt meant to be a tandy bash, i just thought it may have been useful to know where it came from ;-)
  5. hi everyone, i just recieved a 1.6-2.0 double shoulder from tandy ukand im finding it quite difficult to carve, i have stropped my swivel knife several times but even after a good dampening it is still tough, i once heard someone say to put a small amount of washing up liquid in with some water to reduce drag, but even that doesnt really work. have i chosen the wrong type of leather or wrong cut? it was the craftsmen double oak shoulder thats on sale at the moment. any hints guys ;-)
  6. with regards to haggling, i haggle upwards, if someone comes at me with" i'll give you 15 for the 20 item, i come back with 25 and thats where the price stays unless they are dumb enough to try again, then it goes up to 30 and so on ;-)
  7. thanks everyone, i think the nail has been hit squarely on the head, i have been using the gel as dye/stain, instead of a highlighter, i did wonder why it took so much work to get an even coat ;-), im pleased, its another valuable lesson learned. thank you
  8. hi everyone, i had my first custom order this week, which i was pleased about, however, the customer wanted the antique tan finish, and this happened i applied the antique gel with a dry dauber, and didnt notice any blemishes in the leather before i applied the dye, but this was the result, needless to say the customer wasnt interested in buying this, which was disheartening as i had carved a dog or her choice into it, however, i decided to try a work around and came up with this happily the customer saw this on my facebook page and swore at me (in a nice way ;-) ) and wants to buy it again. obviously i would like to avoid the above problem.so any hints would be much appreciated . ;-)
  9. hi everyone ;-) im slowly getting the hang of things, but have come across something i need some help with. its do do with using multiple colours on a single project, i know the method of using finishing sheen as a resist, and have had...moderate success, but i seem to get little bleeds onto the bits i dont want to be a certain colour. what i would like to achieve is shown below. but for the life of me ,i cant figure out how to get the effect unless i hand paint, and i find it hard to believe that the items shown are done this way. thanks for the help, ;-)
  10. thankyou ;-) i guess it helps whenyou know the names lol ;-) another valuable piece of information banked , thanks again

  14. i kept cutting straight lines until it was almost there and then beveled the edges, to be honest i think the lacing makes them look smoother than they actually are ;-) but thank you for the nice comments .
