I don't really feel comfortable selling anything until I've made a lot and made the same thing over and over and worked out any kinks I've been giving things to family as an excuse to make more. I'm just the type that has to make things or I go nuts and once an item is complete I start another I don't like TV and most people drive me nuts lol so I just make things when I have free time I paint and dabbled in music but was horrible at the music . I put some of the first things I made in critique my work . I think I get a little better with each item but I need a lot of work before I'd want to sell something to a stranger

Ill call and do my next order over the phone and ask basically how I can get the best stuff for what I need while not paying for absolute perfection . I know I won't buy leather from tandy again it didnt have many bad spots but doesn't smell like the other stuff i have used it doesn't really smell at all and seems a bit dry . I wish I could drop around 1000$ bucks at Springfield but 1-200 is about my cap for now especially with Christmas coming some of the bundles are really appealing at 40-80 $ for around 40 sq feet of stuff to experiment with and get my feet wet I just wish I had known about them from the start

I had some cracking on my econo grade from tandy .Always around a bend on the business side and this is before dye dries it out a bit . I'm planning on getting the "American single shoulder " from Springfield along with maybe a bundle of something and that kidskin for Christmas the American shoulder says its from HO but I may go with another just depends if they still have some in two weeks or so

http://springfieldleather.com/29887/Kidskin%2CFinished%2CBlack/ I'm guessing something like this would work ? I'm really inexperienced and have only used tooling veg tan and a little chromexcel . All the types of leather can be really intemidating and I'm not really a people person so contacting a supplier and carry on a conversation isn't easy for me

I did find a very small spot that didnt take my oil dye when I looked at it really close I noticed it was either a flake of glass or something similar . I got it out with my awl an kept on dying . I found that odd

Thanks ! I've been asking around all month an have been worried that all the things I made from my first econo shoulder wouldn't last

Ill call springfield I just ordered from those guys I absolutely love the fact that you can get a sq foot of just about anything which is all I'd really need of something so thin . @cyberthrasher

Thanks . You wouldn't happen to know if the cheaper "encomey" or "craftsman" or b ext grades of leater last as long or near as long as let's say top grade Herman oak ? I have been looking around for this info and can't find it . Are the imperfections (scars brand marks ext ) and maybe dryer areas and location of manufacturing the only difference or will cheaper leather not last for decades or even longer ?

I got a sq foot of 1-2oz veg tan on eBay and can't seem to find any place else with anything that thin . At that size would it be under an odd category or something ? I guess 2-3 would work but I want some really thin stuff for card pockets in wallets

I'm new but I just used some flat braided thread and was really pleased to find my back stitching doesn't stand out at all with it and I go back 5-6 stitches . With twisted 3 ply I would look at the back stitch and it really showed but with the flat braided I can't really tell where it is

Difference Of Craftsman Oak, Oak Leaf, Live Oak Tooling Leather?

Does the cheaper stuff like economy last as long as better grade stuff ? -
What's a good way to avoid nail/tack holes on the area that will be the finished product ? So far all I can think of is trying to plan out where my stitching holes will be and put the nails there or making a piece of wood that will fit over the mold like a kinda bracelet (best way to describe what I'm thinking ) do the nail holes hide well ?

I think I'll get some thread from this co. In Maine think its Maine thread co. Or something like that I have it book marked they have up to 6 ply twist and a lot of color and material options an is made in the US .In the description it gives the ply number and measurement number if I'm not mistaken . I just hope the .8Mm fills the holes Nicley from my tandy stitching chisel each prong seems to be 1.5-2 mm wide but the holes come out to about 1mm but I'm using a ruler to measure that and MM is pretty small

If your in the US with multiple colors and have an eBay account I and I bet many others would like to buy less then a spool of different colors .Red would be nice but it would take me years to use a whole spool of red for example. I mainly use dark brown and have cream on the way.
-
I got 20 yards on the way that should last me a while since I won't use the color on everything . How much does an entire spool go for ? It's coming from Canada and I'm in TN so I have no idea how long that takes its been 6-7days

All I do is hand stitch I'm really new to the craft (2-3) weeks and love it over oil paintings which I've basically quit doing . Why spend money and time on something that goes on a wall when I can make art that is used ? I want something that will really fill the holes up using my stitching chisel I use the smallest awl and these new holes seem large compared to it . If it seems too thin I guess I can get some 4 or 5 ply thread .Does anyone have an opinion on the stuff from Maine ? I would like a nice thread since the price difference between Tandy's Stiff and top shelf is minimal

I got some German made 0.8 mm braided tiger thread from a guy in Canada on the way (its not sold in the US) and was wondering if anyone has experience with sizes of braided thread measured in MM . I'm just used to the "ply" or number of strands that are twisted together . Is 0.8 MM larger then 3 ply nylon ? I looked around for "tiger thread " on the site but all I found was someone asking about it and being told "it must be some cheap Chinese crap" that's not the case btw its german and people in Europe swear its the best
