I just got a couple of bullfrog skins in... I may have to give it a try this weekend. Thanks for the pattern.

I've been thinking about this for a while now. Any suggestions on who to use to get the dies made?

Sounds like the Tuff Kote wasn't fully cured. I've had that happened to me a couple of times when I was rushing things...

making patterns with the computer

I've been playing with a 3-D printer to make pieces for stamping... Here is a Font from Photoshop that I did a name on a dog collar on... -
You can buy these at Staples for about $15 a package. You make your own label using a word template, and print on your printer. Then you use the included string to attach to the product. I use them quite a bit, and they work well. Sorry forgot to attach the link the 1st time: http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Products/Marketing-Solutions/Tags/Paper-Tag-White-1_.5in-x-1_.5in-with-Strings-InkJet-Print_to_the_Edge-20-up-10-sheets_22849.htm?N=0&Ns=&refchannel=c042fd03ab30a110VgnVCM1000002118140aRCRD

Here is a good tutorial on casing the leather... http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=19121 As far as setting up the grid, I'm still trying to figure that one out. So hopefully someone with more experience can answer that one.

Shtoink... I know that look all too well. It's a cross between happiness and satisfaction. Luckily we don't get much rain, so I don't have to deal with the mud, but when we do, it's pure elation... We had a few days of heavy rain, and I thought my dog was a seal the way he was sliding across the backyard.

A little background on my dog... He's Stafordshire Terrier and German Shepard mix. Insanely strong, and loves to pull to go meet a new dog or say hi to someone. His best friend is a 200lb Great Dane, who gets pulled around room while playing tug-o-war. If there is water anywhere around, he is diving into it. Since I'm in So Cal, he gets to go play in the ocean during the summer. Every nightmare situation you can put a collar through, is his normal play time. I typically make martingale collars as they help with controlling larger dogs that like to pull, and also keeps them from slipping out of the collar. I use 7 oz veg tanned leather, glue, and hand sew the collars. Typically I buy double shoulders, as it is more cost effective. I do sew the across the D and buckle, and have yet to have a problem. I know it could be an issue, but if my dog hasn't popped the D off it must be something to be aware of but not worry about. The biggest issue I've had is the dye starts wearing around the edges, but then again this is after the collar has gone through 6 months of hell. I think I've possibly fixed the issue by following the the finishing edges thread...

Thanks for the link Bob. This will get me started.

I've been looking for a pattern to do this. I've never made a bag, and don't even know where to begin...

Now I'm really curious... Would you please grant me access.

Just as an FYI... I just tried a couple of different browser, and all I got was the CGI directory going to Learnleather.com. Also I just put a request in to join the FB group. Cheers, Jim

I have a couple of the craft tool stamps, and they work well. You just have to be careful about the stamp moving while making the imprint. As long as you're careful, you'll get good results.

No worries Joe. I'm just having a tough time finding patterns that have enough spacing between that I can actually carve. I'm still fairly new to this, and am learning as ideas come into my head (which is really dangerous). I'm going to have to try casing the leather better, and see if I can get a better imprint. As far as the look... Being 6'3" with long hair and a beard, I get some very strange looks just walking into a Hobby Lobby. It's kind of fun.

I've tried this a few times... I've used the ebossing plate to put a pattern down, and then carved and stamped the leather...
