  2. This looks great! If this is your first go at it you may be on to a speciality of yours!
  3. Look great!
  4. From the album: Holsters

Brother wanted a Twenty One Pilots themed holster. Took this pattern straight out of an Al Stohlman holster pattern book.
  5. From the album: Holsters

Buddy wanted an axe sheath. Only stated he like Captain America and let me run with it. This is what I came up with.

  8. From the album: Random Things I've Made

Was just goofing off with this one. Used a jello mold. :D
  9. From the album: Random Things I've Made

Played around with a scrap piece of leather...
  10. From the album: Holsters

Here is my first attempt at a holster that I made for a Glock 23.
  11. From the album: Fire Dept Stuff

Made this for a buddy on the local dept. It's been through a few fires at the time of this pic.
  12. From the album: Fire Dept Stuff

This is my first attempt at a glove strap for my turnouts. I'm "Slim" around the station. :D
  13. From the album: Fire Dept Stuff

I participate in an annual FDNY memorial stairclimb and climb for a firefighter who was a Lieutenant at Station 33. I contacted his station for the design and made a front for my stairclimb helmet.
  14. From the album: Fire Dept Stuff

I'm a big fan of WWII aviation and nose art/pinups. Being from Memphis I decided to make a Memphis Belle design on a scrap piece of leather. Not sure how this snuck into my FD album... oh well.
  15. From the album: Fire Dept Stuff

This was my first attempt at a shield. You can really tell it was my first time doing tool work by all of my hatchet marks! My buddy thought it made it look kinda tough though.
  16. Awesome work, Slimcut22! I really like the look of them.
  17. Heya! Fellow Firefighter. Would love to see your work. When ya get a chance, post 'em up!
  18. Samalan, it isn't my original artwork. We have it on the side of Engine 2 at work. Just thought it would be neat to make a shield with the station mascot for practice. :D Thanks for the kind words! I've got to get a handle on keeping my edges lined up... maybe I'll leave the back a bit larger and dremel it down to match after it's sewn? I also need some more tooling experience... but it'll come with time. :D I'll attach the pic from Engine 2.
  19. Checked into matting and actually picked up some new tools. Thanks for the heads up on the post! It is taking some practice but I'm getting there... Here is an update on the bulldog shield.
  20. That is what I've done so far as well... would love to have some sort of striking plate made or a technique of cutting multiple blanks at once!
  21. Heya group... thought I'd post my first two projects. I got into trying leather work so I could make fronts for our fire helmets. The skull is my first attempt for a friend. I definitely made quite a few mistakes but I learned quite a bit. I'm now tinkering with a second project and already learning more. I prefer to say I'm learning instead of messing up. :D Advice more than welcome... this place is a wealth of information! -Slim
  22. Very nice! I'm a huge fan of sugar skulls! :D
  23. I just wanted to say thanks as well... I'm going to use this as a starting point!
  24. Was wondering if you guys were still around. Just started making fronts here... wondering what you guys were using for templates, cutting blanks, etc. Also, just looking to chat about making shields.
  25. Hello all, thought I'd say hey. I'm very new to leather work but have taken an interest so I can learn to make my own leather fronts for our fire helmets. I'll most likely mainly just work with them and smaller projects, like glove straps, etc. I've been skimming the posts for a few days and thought I'd say hello. Any pointers or other folks that make fire related leather products please feel free to offer advice! I'll be lurking around and learning! :D
