First holster... Bersa Pocket Carry
Srigs replied to liveneasy's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Very nice job for the first holster and you can't go wrong with a pocket holster. Now wrap your gun in plastic wrap and then wet mold the holster by dunking in hot tap water for 5 seconds, wipe off the excess water, put the gun wrapped up and lightly form the holster to the gun for about 10-15 minutes of setup and then pull the gun and let it dry. This also might remove the dots of pen color and of course you can dye it next and/or top coat it with Resolene cut 50/50 or Tandy Satin sheen. Keep up the good work and look forward to seeing the finished product and how it works for you. A cross draw is very ambitious but give it a whirl. Suggestion is start with a pancake design and many designs on paper before cutting leather. Lastly ask questions and we can help. -

I like leather holsters of course -
New J Frame Pocket Holster
Srigs replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Hi Randy, Nice job and as long as the customer is happy that is all that matters. Only suggestion is to have the leather come up higher near the hammer to keep it from snagging when in a pocket moving around. -
2nd try at a pocket holster

Nice job on the pocket holster and a new way to make one! Finish it and carry it. Then give a report. -
Question on interior holster finish
Srigs replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I generally do one dip with it under for 5 to 10 seconds and let drip dry and touch up the drips with a paper towel. Sometimes I do dip again depending on the finish after a couple of days. Hope that helps. -
Now that I have a stitching machine my hands are coming back to normal. Golf gloves work well with the finger tips cut off. I still do some hand stitching on some sub assemblies but does not cause to much problems.

Very nicely done... You even have rivets to protect the bottom of the leather!

How do I finish the edges?
Srigs replied to Knifeknut's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I dye and then slick (I also think the dye helps in the slicking process IMHO). So it is already dyed so no issue with closing up the leather with the slicking. No edge dye for me. I hope that helps. -
Resolene vs. Neat Lac
Srigs replied to mliebs8's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I take Resolene and cut it in half with water. I actually dip my holsters to seal inside and out. I hope that helps. -
Completed my first holster!

Nice job for your first holster. I love the dye job on it... what do you use and how did you apply it? if you don't mind me asking. -
How do I finish the edges?
Srigs replied to Knifeknut's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I only use water for slicking the edges and works great. I'm currently using deer antlers for slicking which works. -
As I thought, Steve was able to straighten me out on my new Toro 3000 in less than 5 minutes so I'm very happy and got a ton of work done tonight.
-
I received my 3000 about a week ago. I had a couple of challenges but I'm working through them. I will be dropping Steve a call but so far I have cut my stitching time by 80% so it was well worth it.

Shark skin holster

Very nice 1911 rig you made there. Eventually I will get into exoctics but for now just leather holsters for me. -
A little baby powder on the belt slots might help.

Very nice SkipJ... Now you need her with her SA in the holster pic! Are you SASS shooters? -
Question on interior holster finish
Srigs replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Also cut the Resolene 50/50 for better results. It also makes for a less shiny finish. -
First holster question
Srigs replied to ApexPredator's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I agree. I use Resolene on mine with it cut 50/50 because out of the bottle it is a little thick. Mine are dunked for about 5 to 10 seconds to fill up the pores. Satin Shene works very well and provides a nice finish. -
Nice finished belt holster combo. How does it fit and wear?

My Wickenburg holster set

If I made a gun rig like that I would need a pair of SA to go with it. The check book is saying NO! Nice rig... how does it fit and feel on? -
Playing around with different finishes
Srigs replied to mliebs8's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Good looking holster. I know what you mean on the 3000 and the walking foot leaving marks. I have only had my 3000 for a week and now have the tension right for the most part so it is working well now. -
Inside The Pocket Holster For My New Kahr
Srigs replied to Randyc's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Good looking pocket holster you got there. Looks functional and generally you don't need to heavy form a pocket holster. Keep making the holsters your doing great. -
