  1. Depending on which model of holster if I lightly cold wet mold the leather or mold after it is stitched. Pancake holsters are generally stitched before and flat backed holsters are cold wet formed for the out side then stitched. Try them out yourself and then choose what works for you.
  2. I'm planning to use 346/277 route with my new Toro 3000. Boomstick great idea on the wetting the back side.
  3. Thanks for the info Regis. Steve is good to work with so far. Saving time is what I'm looking to do just like you said ArtS.
  4. Well I have taken the plunge and my Toro 3000 is on order and can't wait to get it.
  5. Thanks guys. I ordered some from sailrite to try and see how they work out.
  6. Hi all, I'm looking for a good supplier for Black and Nickel Pull the Dot Snaps. Can anyone helps. Thanks
  7. One will most likely be in my future soon. Congrats and we will need pictures of your setup.
  8. Very nice job. I can see why the scout was interested in what you were doing. Keep helping them and it will pay off. By the way, Welcome to the forum.
  9. I use a half moon wood chisel about 1/4 of an inch. Then cut with a straight edge to make the slot. I also cut the top and bottom edges for edge relief and edge slicking.
  10. Welcome to the forum. You need to check that the thread you can use on the stitcher is thick enough for the type of work you are doing. I passed on the #5 and will be looking for an Artisan 3000 because it will work for the thicker stitching I'm planning on using. I'm getting sick of punching holes. I hope this helps.
  11. Welcome to the forum and very nice shooten iron and rig you got there.
  12. Bruce you sure do make some good looking belts. One day maybe I can do one half that professional. :scratchhead:
  13. For IWB holsters, I use generally 5/6 leather. For OWB holsters, I use 7/8 on the back side and 6/7 on the front side. Use the best quality leather you can afford. I have not lined any of my holsters thus far.
  14. I was dis-satified with "off the rack" gun holster leather for a carry gun I had. One of the forums I belong to got a group together to learn how to make holsters at the Bloomington Tandy store. It really opened my eyes to the fact that I could make my own holsters and works well with my back ground in wood working, sculpture and engineering. I put together some different holsters and posted them on our local forum and on defensivecarry.com. When I did, many "real" holster makers provided good feedback via posts and PMs (Nate from UBG and Bruce Gibson to name a few). From this, I slowly improved my holsters until people asked, "Can you make one for me?" Now I'm 9 months in and the quality is very good, good customer reviews and now looking to get a stitching machine because my punching and hand stitching can only produce so many holsters with my part time effort. Now my self and another local forum member have been doing classes for forum members who want to give it a try! It is nice to pass on the knowledge.
  15. Nice work. My wife has a thing for good looking spur straps. (We have 2 horses) I really like the head stall.
  16. Nice job on the wallets and good job on the holster. One question on the holster... Is there a reason for the shape of the belt slots? It is a pattern I have not found before. When I do belt slots, I use a half moon (1/4") wood working chisel and then use my knife to cut between the two half moon cuts. Keep it up!
  17. I used a stitching awl for about 15 minutes and said this is not going to work for me. What does work for me is a retangle punch with one, three and four prong types. It helps to keep things lined up by using the last hole you punched as the first hole in the next series. Before I start punching, I lightly use an awl to draw the pattern I'm punching. This works for me and is much easier and faster to make good looking stitching lines. I hope this helps.
