First Bible Cover
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Equiplay Saddlery's topic in Books, Journals and Photo Albums
Thanks. I definitely learned a lot making it but I like the way it turned out so I know I'll be making more similar projects. -
This is the first time I've done any kind of book cover. My Bible was looking a little ragged so I made this last week.

Very nice. I have a Wade tree on order and have been considering putting bucking rolls on it but I've never made them before.

Recent Work
Equiplay Saddlery replied to GrayHallidayJr's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
All really nice stuff. Love the detail you get in such small areas. -
Thanks guys. Glad y'all like it. I told the customer that having my strap on his guitar is as close to playing music as I'd ever get.
-
Thanks WRLC. I used one coat of clear lac as the resist. I probably should have used two but it's a learning experience. I top coated that with Tankote. The antique was Feibings mohagany paste.

This is a guitar strap I just finished. I used Wickett and Craig 6 oz veg tan calf skin with a 6 oz latigo backing. This was also the first piece I've ever antiqued. Overall I like the antique but it will definitely take a little practice. The customer loved it so that's the most important part but I would appreciate any feedback you guys care to give.

Thanks Bob. It's a Barry King stamp and that certainly helps when you have good stamps to start with. Your work is beautiful. One day I'm going to learn to do floral. So far my practice attempts have only been good to give the dogs as chew toys.

Briefcase For My Brother
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Equiplay Saddlery's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Thanks Grumpymann. It was a close copy of an old one he had and liked so that is why I designed it that way. He probably doesn't use it but once or twice a month so at his request I didn't even make a shoulder strap for it. The pockets on the old one were on the back and he likes it so that's what he got. No other reason. Thanks. Hopefully I will have more examples soon. I appreciate the critique though. It gives me something to think about on the next one. -
This is the third set of hobbles I've done in the last few weeks. Seem to be having a run on them but that's fine with me. Latigo lined 10-12 oz Wickett and Craig veg tan.

Briefcase For My Brother
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Equiplay Saddlery's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Thanks for the compliment Tugadude. The design of this was a close copy of his old one that had just worn out. He liked and had been carrying for at least 25 years. He wanted something similar so this is what I came up with but the clean back side does make sense. He doesn't use it all the time and didn't even want a shoulder strap because he said it would just get in the way. I did put loops on in case he changes his mind later though. -
Briefcase For My Brother
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Equiplay Saddlery's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Thanks Bogwot. I really like the feel of this leather. -
I did consider lining it Tugadude but this leather actually has a nice finish and is fairly smooth. The lady I made it for is also a horse person and likes the leather look. This was the first time I have done a purse and I like how it turned out but I did learn a lot and have found a few things I would do differently on another one. I'm also glad a made a good pattern for this one.

Briefcase For My Brother
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Equiplay Saddlery's topic in Satchels, Luggage and Briefcases
Big Sioux thanks for the compliment. It really is nice harness leather. I love the feel of it. It has body but still bends. I pulled the invoice to be sure and it is listed as HARNESS 6 oz BUCK BROWN STD. I used the same leather to make a purse that I posted in another thread this morning. You can get another look at finished product if you look at it. Both the purse and the briefcase were finished with a light coat of Tee See oil and then TanKote. -

Not all holsters are for guns

You've got to be kidding? Was his name Paul? LMBO The insulin holster looks really nice though. -
This is a briefcase a recently made for my brother. His old one was in pretty bad shape and he asked if I could make him something simple but functional. This is what I came up with. I made it using Wickett and Craig harness leather. Feel free to critique.

Plinkercases it works great with the glass. Glue wipes right off and there is nothing to damage the leather when you're skiving. My cutting mat is an old piece of hard rubber that my teacher gave me. He's been using a piece of it for about 20 years and it's still going strong. I have no idea where it came from but I'm glad to have it. -

Thanks Harrycho. Thanks. I wish it got a little more use but my regular paying job just seems to keep getting in the way. -
Restoration of my old saddle
Equiplay Saddlery replied to Thor's topic in Saddle Identification, Restoration & Repair
I'm just learning myself Thor but it looks like you did a pretty good job to me. The problem will be finding a horse today that a saddle that old will still fit.
