I would definately go with the Landis, Then again I am a little partial to them. I have been sewing on them since I was about 7 years old. We have three in our shop, would not trade them for anything.

I have ran in to this too in my shop. I give the customer the price of fixing the saddle properly. If they do not want to do that then I do not fix the saddle. I am working on one right now that someone else worked on before. They had spliced the stirrup leathers, NOT GOOD. I told the customer what the saddle needed to put it in to a very safe condition and let him make the decision. We all have liabilty and obligation to do the job right. I have had customers with broken trees ask me to fix them so they could sell them, I say absolutely not. Also If I am working on a saddle and find something broken, i.e. a tree, I refuse to put the saddle back together because of liability, I have had a couple customers, pi$$@d at me but it is not worth it to me to half a$$ something just to make someone happy.

I have used the maine thread and it has worked well for me.

I have never seen these to be any good or very safe. When I have seen them cracked I have offered to sell the customer a new saddle. That is just my experience for what its worth. All these do is lighten the saddle at the cost of the safety, again just an opinion

I like this thread.. I am a roller / supervisor in a specialty steel mill, I have hot wire and rods running past me at speeds reaching 23 m/s. THAT"S MY DAY JOB!! I first began pounding nails in dad's bench in the shop when I began to walk. I started working on saddles and Tack at 5 and machinery at 10. When I was a kid it was more like SLAVE labor!! HA! HA! HA Then after completing college in '99, with a BS in Industrial/Operations Management. I found that my day job, or sometimes night work was very stressful. So I got put on Midnight shift 10p-6a for 6 months so I could run heavy equiptment for a friend of mine through the day. That was great 4 hrs of sleep a day, Hey as long as it is concentrated sleep it is enough. That did not take away the stress. Then I started pounding nails in Dad's Bench again and realized that it was great relaxment, until he made me pull them all out!!! Then I started a webpage with him and another, all because I was bored one day. He gets to do what he loves and it keeps him busy and me sane. He has been at it, pounding leather, for 50+ years and started his business full time in around '74. Making boots saddles or anything else some one asks for, or sometimes doesn't. Prior to his full time leather shop he was an Engineer, I tell them they all think backwards, for a specialty carbide company.

I agree that rubies are superb. I also found mine on e-bay. I have both angles and straights. My father and I Both prefer the rubies.

Spider That's about the age I started "Helping" Dad, In the Shop. He had a pc of rubber on a steel bench where he worked on boots. It was about 1/4" thick and I used to pound nails and clinch them on the steel. Then it would take him hours to pull them out. I still work with him about 2 hours every day after my "other job", 28 yrs later. He doesn't let me pound nails in his bench anymore though!!

First of all this is Young John on the forum. Not big John. Second I dropped them off to you with the agreement that I was to pick up a Juki LU 563 on trade. Third you made up an excuse that you could not get into the wharehouse you kept them in because you did not own the wharehouse. After waiting at your house for over three hours with my wife you told me I could meet you and pick the machine up wednesday or thursday. Then Wednesday came and you told me you could not meet me due to your father's death. Then we agreed to meet on sunday, to give you time with your loss of your father. Then on Sunday you made up an excuse that your Truck broke down in Kentucky and you could not meet me to even pick up my machines. Then you promised me that you would ship the machine we were trading for at your cost by no later than Tuesday. Then you had several other excuses. This is why I continued to call you. Then 4 months later after getting pi#### at me you promised to call Dad, Big John and take care of the situation, and never returned his e-mails or calls. LIKE YOU PROMISED. Fourth this has gone on for over 6 months and NOW YOU ARE SAYING I HAVE TO PAY FREIGHT. So who is tho poor business man here???? AND THE ONE YOU CAN'T TRUST???? Further I believe that if you check BIG John has a foutry plus Year excellant reputation, something you do not. SO WHO DOES not hold up to their end of a promise. Further this is the first time we have heard from you even after sending registered mail. Also These two OLD machines are in better operating condition, if you remember you saw them working when you were in our shop. So with this being said who in the untrsutworhty one? These Heads should be returned to us in the same condition recieved via FED EX. You did not pay freight when you recieved them. I PERSONALLY DELIVERED THEM with nothing in return. Further I know more about machinery then you think because I have 20 plus years working on it. AND I KNOW HOW TO TREAT SOMONE WITH RESPECT. DO YOU??????????? AS WE SAID BEFORE YOU CAN REACH US BY PHONE OR E-MAIL.

Here is a Trap Bag we did a couple years ago. I just wanted to Show Off Some of Dad's, The Boss's, Tooling. The Bag Holds 8 Boxes of 12 ga shells and has a compartment for Glasses and ear Plugs.

Just how it looks in the photo, There is a bit of a reflection with the finish on the holster. The stitch is set in the middle of the Layers. This was sewn on a Landis 16, Harness Machine, what we sew all of our holsters on.
