  9. For the flat backed holster pattern, I would agree with what BigRiverLeather posted. I have been experimenting with a somewhat similar IWB pattern and process in that the front pattern is around .5" longer than the backside. For me, this type of pattern gives you some benefits of the comfort of a flat backed holster with the concealability of a pancake style. The trigger guard of the gun is centered to the back wing of the holster, allowing it to help pull the grip into your back, while the front is wrapped over the front of the gun, helping it give a nice, natural curved fit to the hip. When done this way, I wouldn't call it a true flat backed holster, though. It is more of a hybrid between the two styles. As BigRiverLeather stated, it does take longer, and is more difficult to work with. I have a thin waist and find that this style fits me better than anything I've made before and will make all my personal gear this way in the future.
  10. Nice work! The shark trim looks great.... Congratulations on the kid!
  11. Hey Sixer, I see your location is NW Mo. If you are near St. Joe, Hobby Lobby usually has a selection of Paasche and Iwata air-brushes. They are way overpriced, though, unless you get the 40% off coupon that is in the sunday paper every week or two.
  12. Jimbob - I just use hot, soapy water immediately after I'm finished using the air-brush. So far that has worked just fine. I use about 40-42 psi when spraying the acrylic finish, and around 30-35 psi when using dye. I only use the air-brush to apply a final top-coat for both the dye and finish. I prefer to dip the holsters for the main application of both dye and acrylic finish.
  13. Very nice belts. Looks like top-shelf quality products to me.
  14. I've been happy using the Angelus 600. I usually give the holster a good soaking in it and then use an airbrush to apply a final coat to cut the gloss down. After it is dry I apply a coat of Kiwi clear shoe polish for a final buffing.
  15. Nice holster, great molding on it.... I use 277 for the top and bottom also in my Toro 3000. I've tried 346 for the top but cant get it to run smoothly, I'm thinking I might have to run some sort of thread lube to get it to work but haven't tried it yet.
  16. Nice holster. I like the elephant trim, it gives it a nice, classy look.
  17. Dwight- Thanks for the compliments. I borrowed the concept of wrapping the leather around the trigger side the gun from Thad Rybka's Rhodesian holster, I don't consider it my pattern.
  18. Thanks for the comments. Jeff-- I'll keep adjusting it to see what I can come up with. This one was the cut out the whole offending area and see what it looks like approach. If anyone has any info on the history of this style of holster I would be happy to hear it. I've never read if this is a Rybka original design or if there were older, similar designs that wrapped around the trigger guard.
  19. I have admired Thad Rybka's Rhodesian style of holster that I have seen for 1911's and Hi-powers, but never could find pictures of that style for a Glock. So, strictly for my own use and amusement I have been trying to make one for my Glock 19. It took several patterns to get it usable, mainly to find a ride height that wasn't too high and unstable on the belt or too low and would interfere with a good grip. I'm still not quite satisfied with how the leather wraps around the trigger guard, but that was also difficult to do without it flaring out too much around the wide Glock trigger guard. Anyway, this is what I ended up with.... It has been a fun holster to try to make. Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Uploaded with ImageShack.us Thanks for looking.
  20. I dip dye first to soak it in deeply and then airbrush to even out the color. I agree that light scratches show the leather underneath easier if you just airbrush. For hard use and long term durability I think that dipping/using a dauber and then airbrushing is the better method.
  21. Good work! That natural finish on the inside is nice. How does the 346 thread work in you Toro 4000? Do you have to do any major tweaks to the tension or use lube to get it to sew smoothly?
  22. That is a nice looking reinforcement piece on your holster! Looking good...it looks like you are getting the process down. The more you make the better they will turn out. I am flattered you would base one of your holsters on a design of mine.
