  1. i'm just guessing here...but maybe give it a bath/soak in white vinager??...then run it through a baking soda water mix...thats what i would try myself...if its a black collar...i'd soak it in the vinagroon...making sure it penetrated all the way...dunno...skunk is bad...and the funk prolly soaked in damn good...so whatever ya do its gonna have to penetrate the leather well...

  2. I use brass loop staples from Weaver. I don't know if they are available anywhere else but I'm sure that they are.

You could also use a heavy duty stapler to staple the ends together.

    Art

they can be a little tricky to find...theres weaver like art said but i think its a 1000 qty minimum...then you can also get them at springfield leather...in 100 qty a pack or larger quantities of course...

  3. The one experiment that did not work. I tried to mix the HiLiter with some LeatherSheen and come up with roll your own X1. It resembled Mountain Dew/Copenhagen spit.

definately don't what that bruce lol...i know exactly what that looks like since i used to chew cope & drink dew ;o)

thanks for all the input guys!!...it should get here tomorrow so i can play around with it abit...i was hesitant on the eco flo being water based...but i needed it fast and with tandy's...i get it the next day...because i have to have this shell case done before the weekend for the customer when early deer opens...

but thats definately reassuring bruce that you've been happy with it and have had good results...

  4. why you especially got flack over the elephant...is due for the fact that they are highly intelligent and very social/bonding creatures among other attributes they do have...much like our own in many ways...they aren't on the same intellect & social levels...as reptiles, birds and fish etc...very similar human qualities and traits is the main reason...cuz its true if you have done your research on them...

in a sense it would be like using chimpanzee or gorilla...elephants are not any different really...

personally...nope i wouldn't use elephant ever...for the reasons in the above points i made...believe them or not...even if the elephants were farmed...it is a moral thing for me...and i'm far from a PETArd ;0)

but other animals that are farmed...yes indeed i'll use them =0)

  5. heres my experience so far...if your juice is pretty concentrated/potent...don't need to "soak" persay...just a quick dip...unless its something you want it to penetrate all the way through...

also it seems to me the vinagroon doesn't have the same swelling effect on leather that water does...i haven't had an issue with loosing detail like that...i also don't do the rinse others do afterwards either....i personally dip, let dry...oil and aussie...vinagroon also seems to stiffen the leather a bit...

other ideas is shelly...is you can paint on the vinagroon, and cuz its a chemical reaction vs dye...its blends with itself perfectly...no spotting/streaking and such like dye may...so hypathertically speaking...should beable to spray it on as well...even with a squirt bottle...

  6. you can just add to it...until its gets too diluted of course...use a test piece when in doubt and you'll know in seconds after ya dip it...or when you know you'd added x amount fresh vinager...just put the iron back in for a few days...like i mentioned, filter it every so often...cuz their will be iron crud that settles if ya don't...or some weird foam crap on the top in the beginning...but that will subside in time along with the funky smell...

even though my juice was effective in a couple of days...i didn't take the spikes out for a good 2 weeks or so...not until it was like a real dark tea...then removed them...

you'll get a feel for it once you've monkey'd with it a bit...no rocket science with vinagroon...

  7. Does the metal need to be real rusty? I used a gallon of white vinegar, and put in a small handful of nails that had some rust on them, let it sit and stew for about 4 days, couldn't see any difference in the vinegar, and all it did was get the leather damp.

I just tossed in a chunk of 000 steel wool that I have, and going to let it sit for a few more days, but didn't know if the rust was a key component??

go find some train tracks and get a few railroad spikes...always some laying around...your solution will be good 2 go in 2 days ;0)

p.s take out metal after its cured good...filter juice with an old t-shirt every so often as well...

  8. i knew that border deal looked oddly familiar tommy boy :spoton: <--- WTF is that emoticon doing or protraying??

doesn't look to bad a'tall tom!!...wouldn't envy doing that loooooooong center triweave and keeping it straight n'all... :gun:

this may be of some interest to ya tom...its an on the fly adjustable sling, with a knot type slide deal...called a montana sling...if ya can figure out how the slide is done...hard to find good pics of it front & back etc...

  9. Isn't nutria like a big swamp rat that was imported here from who knows where. I had a buddy that used to trap them in Lousiana.

theres some guys i know down in those parts that hunt'em with patterdales...$5.00 bounty for each if ya bring in a tail...they were originally brought over for the fur trade and now a nuisance/invasive species...

  10. Anyone ever watch all the gross stuff that Andrew Zimmern puts in his mouth on that show called "Bizarre Foods"?

Rotten shark meat, testicles of all kinds, eyeballs, etc. I wonder if he actually likes eating that stuff, or if he does it strictly for the shock value?

i think he actually does like the crap he eats...his belly looks like he enjoys it anyways hehe

but i can't take listening to that guy...something about him grates on my nerves...Anthony bourdain is the man though :red_bandana:

  11. Very nice!

Having a custom makers stamp makes you feel good. Don't ask me why, it's just the way it is!

    Tom
