Like I said, he wants to return the piece of crap and get his money back if I can find a pattern. Which is why I'm asking for help with a pattern. If I can save him the money he spent on this shitty thing, I want to do that. If I can't find a pattern, then I'll take the thing apart.

He says he wants it with all the wearing options.

A customer of mine recently bought a POS holster on Amazon. The thing was still wet and transferred dye to his hands when he pulled it out of the box! So now he wants me to make him a new one. Problem is, I have NO clue how to make this holster he wants. He offered to send the POS to me to reverse engineer a new holster, but would rather return it and get his money back. So my question is this: Is there a pattern for this holster?

Do fiebings oil dyes and spirit dyes have the same effect as Eco-flo stains? I'm sure you're aware, but just in case: ecoflo dyes cover tooling in one color, whereas the stain highlights (I believe they call it a hi-lite stain) the tooling, pooling into the deeper marks and wiping off the untooled areas.
-
If you use block dying method how do you blend them so it's a seamless transition? Also, and I'm sorry for not putting this in one post, do you let the first coat dry before you apply the second coat of a different color?

My husband wants me to make a wallet for him. Plain Jane, black dye/stain around the edges and blend it to a lighter color. Probably brown. I have seen some outstanding dye jobs and am just wondering, how the heck do y'all do it?! I've read that you have to use spirit-based, is that true? I'm a newb and using Tandy's Eco-flo line. I like the colors, and don't even know where to begin outside of their line. Pictures for reference to give y'all an idea what I'm talking about.

I can't imagine that it would work on acrylic, but I could be wrong. Im going to give it a shot.
-
What are the dimensions of the wallet? I'm going to print it at home but want to make sure I get the size right.

Thank you all so much for your advice. Sadly, I refunded his money, but I plan on trying to master the damn case anyway.

Patriotic Holster

That's amazing! I had an order for a phone case; the customer wanted a realistic tattered flag. Holes, burnt, etc. I ended up refunding his money because I couldn't do it. I told him upfront that I'm not good at realistic but would give it a shot. How did you get your colors and shading so perfect? By the way, I love the use of the backgrounder on the stripes! -
Thank you. I didn't think to filigree. It still doesn't solve the problem of shadows on the flag, though. He wants it to be darker. Beat up.

I took on an order for a burnt/tattered flag on a phone case. I told the guy I'm not good at realistic, at all, and this would take me some time and a lot of work. I'm about to refund his money because I just can't do it. I cannot paint shadows, and for the life of me, I dlcant figure out how to paint a burn along the edges of a tattered flag. I've tried using my wood burner but it just melts the paint and still leaves me hopeless with painting shadows. I hate to do it, but I think I would be better off giving him his money back. How embarrassing. The first photo, all I've done is painted red, white and blue. The second photo is my attempt at painting the burn. I gave up. Laugh all you like, but I TOLD the guy I'm not good at this shit. He said he has faith in me and that we could figure something out he would like.

NVLeatherWorx, thank you for your quick reply! I was thinking I would just leave the coin pouch out but wanted to make sure I could before I mess with it. That's why I love working with leather. It's something that lasts and can be passed down. I've had people tell me that the items I made them will be family heirlooms. That's a good feeling.
-
Is it possible to make it without the coin pouch? I'm new to this and looking for a pattern that has just a bill compartment or two and card slots.
-
Thank you, this is exactly what I've been looking for! I do have some questions, however. I've never made a wallet "from scratch". I'm still fairly new to leatherworking and have only used pre-cut leather kits. What leather weight is best for the exterior of the wallet? And for the interior?

I had googled water proof finishes and this is one that came up. Or I found it on these forums. I don't remember. Haha Anyway, it's amazing. Very, very shiny, which I don't much like depending on the project, but is water proof dig a few applications. It's from Bee Natural Leathercare. RTC Sheridan Resist & Finish. I had an order of coasters I used it on. Back to the collar. I used a couple coats of super shene on the back, buffed it and called it good. We shall see.
-
I have super shene, acrylic resolene and RTC on hand. I don't have anything to condition it with.
-
I dyed the inside of a collar to hide the stain marks from doing the front. I originally intended to leave the back natural but didn't want all those spots. So, I smoothed it out with gum tragacanth, then dyed with Eco flo coal black. Now that it's dry, what is the best product to use to keep the dye from bleeding?

Speed Loader Case
indidana replied to indidana's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you, I will tell her about the JetLoader! I'm sure she will be pleased. Guys, I finished it. Phew! Like I said, it's a little rough still and I will more than likely redo it to give her a better one. But here you go! The last picture has the shoulder rig attachment in the belt loop. -
Speed Loader Case
indidana replied to indidana's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I relayed all this information to her and she said something along the lines of 'if it can be messed up, I'm the one to do it,' but thanked me and said let's stick with the enclosed case. Which, by the way, is coming along nicely. The edges are a little rough still and I'm sure I'm putting it together wrong, but for my first ever case, I think it will come out alright. I will probably end up making a new one so she has a better one. -
Speed Loader Case
indidana replied to indidana's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
If I'm remembering correctly, she's worried her rounds will fall out of the loader if they're not 100% enclosed in a case. Otherwise I would make a much simpler case! I did think it a little weird that rounds would fall out. Not effective or safe. I will tell her what y'all said and see what she wants to do as far as separating the loaders in the case. Thank you!
