  1. I use Tiger / Ritza braided thread for hand sewing and Abbey Saddlery is the only place I can buy it in small amounts I'm after some different colours but they don't have a colour chart for it, I've been trying to get a colour chart for the last seven months both from the manufacturer Julius Koch and Abbey to no avail.

I've even tried to get some one from Abbey to take a photo of it on the shelf so I can at least get an idea of the colours but still no luck. The trouble with it is some of the colours have more than one code and there is no description of the shade colour. Also I bought what they had listed as Royal Blue but it was actually Navy Blue which I still did need so that wasn't a complete loss.

So I was just wondering is there anyone in England who buys in store at Abbey who could check the colours out for me and get the codes I am after these colours in 1mm or 1.2mm: Orange, Emerald/ Kelly Green, Mid Grey, Teal, Rose Pink & Royal Blue. The Royal Blue has a code of JK14 but it's actually Navy so if you could check if there is a blue that is closer to an actual Royal Blue that would be most helpful.

If some of the the colours aren't available I will probably dye it but it will save me some time if I can get them off the shelf.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Thankyou

    Clair

maybe not the colors you want but they have some http://stores.ebay.com/Leather-and-Stuff-UK/_i.html?_fsub=2599654011

  2. i've been to a few tack sites and i couldn't find anything...i've looked at weaver and the dee ring is the only ss item i can find...they don't have loops that big and the roller buckles are just nickel plated....i have looked so long my eyes are bloodshot.....i know they are out there because there is a collar company in au that advertises there's with ss hardware.....dang

You probably won't find it all in a one stop shop. a lot of the SS hardware I find is from the sailing/boating industry like here http://www.marinepartdepot.com/oringdring.html

  3. 2nd briefcase is almost complete it just needs a good polishing and a few little things done and it's out the door. I made it from W&C "Chestnut" show harness leather. It's a bit redder than the pics show and it doesn't look waxy in person. I had W&C skive the leather down to 4/5oz for me. It's my first time using it and it was awesome to work with, It has 2 small pockets and 2 pen pockets inside front and 1 file pocket inside back as well as a paper pocket on the back the strap is padded in the center and it is ALL hand stitched.

  4. NOt sure where to post ... suppliers, help wanted, sewing, ???

I'm [still] looking for wallet liners. Anyone making the "hipster" style with 10-12 card horizontal card pockets? If you know a supplier sellling small quantities (as in not 1000's) that'd be awesome. If you sew your own, and want to contact me with a quote for a JOB making half a dozen of these, that's fine, too.

I need TWO, but I'd take more. I need it to be strong, but not bulky (that "mission grain" crap I see everywhere won't do).

Money is ALWAYS "an object", but I'll pay a reasonable price for a good item.

    HELP ... uhhh - I mean THANKS!

Here's the link for what reddevil mentioned http://springfieldleather.com/category/125/925/Wallet-Interiors/

  5. One of my son's is the proud owner of a really nice Les Paul guitar. I would like to make him a strap for it..does anyone have plans are instructions of making a strap. I may have to splice some leather together or make an adjustable strap. Any info would be helpful

    Thank You!

I'm no premier guitar strap maker but My suggestion would be to make it to fit, that is if your son is all done growing, that way you dont have to worry about buckles, which could scratch the guitar. I made one to fit a fairly tall guy (strap was around 56") and I punched holes in the end for strap locks (schaler holes are around 3/8") I got a wide long strap from springfield leather and it worked great.

  6. Thanks for the advice. I'll mess with my tension and check my timing. As for lubrication I am using some scraps of W&C show harness, since I'm going to be sewing a bag soon, and it's really quite oily so I wouldn't think that's the problem but maybe it is. I'll have to see if I can find the oil spot in by the bobbin. I've oiled everything else except there.

  7. Well I finally got my Cobra lass 4 this week and have already called steve a few times with questions. I have been having trouble with thread tension (mainly my fault) but there is no tutorial on how to get it back to where it should be. Ensuring the tension knobs are turned together is all I can find. To late for that so how do you get back to proper adjustment?

Also I changed to the strap plate for a trial and changed back but since I changed back the machine has been dropping stitches. sometimes it's as often as every 5th and sometimes not til the 10th or 20th stitch. The needle comes up and the leather comes up off the machine as well. I have increased the foot pressure (didn't help) changed the needle (thought it helped but still does it) and slowed the machine way down. It didn't do it until I removed the bobbin and feed dog to change the plate.

    Any suggestions would be great.

  8. It arrived today. My son-in-law helped me get the head installed. Now I need to figure out how to use it.

Sounds Like Steve has been busy getting this shipment out. Mine was supposed to ship this past Monday. Haven't heard from the shippers yet though. I can't wait and I hope the learning curve isn't to steep since I have some jobs for it waiting

  9. Has anyone used buckleguy.com or chicagoscrews.com? Not that Zack white doesn't have a decent selection, I am just looking for as many options as possible for top quality buckles.

I use buckleguy all the time and am always happy with my hardware and the shipping is fast also.

  10. Well I tried the method we talked about and all I can say is luckily this is my prototype so I don't mind messing it up while I'm figuring this out. The results were less than stellar as you can see from the images below. Unless I'm really doing something wrong (other than my poor sewing skills) I'm still unable to get the corners smooth enough to sew straight and there is no way that I could do a double seam on this as moving further into the leather around the curves would be impossible.

    Any other ideas or suggestions?

this may be a little help http://leatherworker...?showtopic=2161

I made one of these bags with a middle divider and 2 gussets but I stitched it all by hand. I didn't wet from any of it and I used veg tan for the entire bag. 4/5oz for front and back 3/4 for gussets.

  11. After 4 yrs of using eco-flo antique gel I finally switched to Fiebings antique paste today. I had, what I thought was, good results with the eco-flo but had bought some fiebings paste after reading so many posts regarding how much better it was. I have had the paste for about 1yr now but still hadn't used it. I'd tried it on some scraps a few times then tossed in into my dye drawer and decided I would stick with the eco-flo. (I ditched the eco flo dye a few years ago for the fiebings/angelus dyes) Today I just couldn't get the antique result I wanted, so with some trepidation, I dug out the Fiebings and ended up loving it.

  12. Okay - I spent most of my lunch break trying to track down the best place to buy my next 1 lb cones of thread. I originally ordered my thread from Tippmann (277 Anefil Bonded Nylon American Efird), but need to place a new order and would like the following 3 or 4 colors :

    White

    Natural

Red (in two of the following American & Efird or similar manufacturer's colors)

    • Light Copper
    • Chinese Rust
    • Fisherman Red

    http://www.amefird.c...load_7-2011.pdf

I'm thinking with my reds, I'd like to have a deeper/darker red (Chinese Rust or Fisherman Red), and perhaps an orange'ish red (Light Copper). I'm finding most of the sources that sell thread only carry one or two colors (black, white, brown). Weaver sells "Red" and "Henna" in 277, but only "Sand" instead of "Tan" (which graphically appears much closer to my current spool of "Natural" from Tippmann). Granted, I've always thought the "Natural" and "White" from Tippmann were very close once it's on the leather, so I wouldn't be opposed to buying "Sand" from Weaver.

    http://www.leathersu...chines&Such.pdf (last page)

Anyway, I'm looking for a "one stop shop". Any ideas? I'm open to another manufacturer if that will help. I admittedly know very little about thread - I will be using it strictly for holsters and belts in my Tippmann Boss. If there is another brand I should be looking at, I'm open to it.

    Try here

  13. I use the perma-lock needles and I don't have much problem. It's already been said but cut a long taper so you can get more into the needle and don't skive it. I used the lok-eye needles when I first started but the lace never stayed in it for me and the lock side was always sprung after putting the lace in a few times. I'm sure it was more operator error at the time but I switched needles and haven't ever re-tried the others again

  14. GIMP can be finicky when it comes to printing. What OS are you using?

The quick work around is to save your working file as an actual image, open with a different program, and print from there.

    I'm using windows 7

  15. I recently downloaded gimp mainly for pic resizing and printing for pattern making and I am unable to print with it. It doesn't seem to send it to the printer. Anyone have any experience with GIMP?
