Needles and bobbins for Singer 51w28
Lostranger replied to Lostranger's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
Love this forum. Thanks, Constanulary. I ordered one of those needle bars. It may be the trick. I have a couple of 111w based machines, and I stock a variety of 135 needles. I’m confident that my machine is the older model. Not had time to drag it out for photos. I’m busy fixing shoes this morning. Thanks for all the help. James the Cobbler -

Can anyone provide info that might help my machinist make a new needle bar? -

I appreciate all the great information. I believe this machine is the earlier version. I will try to get photos up today. i have a machinist friend who could make the needle bar conversion. Perhaps that would be a good idea. I’ve decided to install a speed reducer. I’m starting the project by making a butcher block top for an old k-leg table that I have. I bought this stitcher as head only. -
I bought this old post bed machine several months ago, and I’m ready to make it useful. Thought I saw a digital manual for it on this site, but I can’t find it now. i need to know what needles and bobbins to buy. I’m building a new tabletop for a K-leg frame and using a brushless, servo motor. Also planning to install a speed reducer, but I’m finding opinions the reducer is not necessary with a brushless servo. I’d love to know what you think. This machine will play a prominent role in our shoe repair business. I’m making a few shoes and boots for immediate family. I’m looking forward to having a functional post bed machine. Any help is greatly appreciated. James in NC

The amount of adjustment available with this eccentric is not enough to core my problem. Does anyone have experience with more extensive timing procedure?

Thanks so much. This is exactly what I need. James

My patcher is a late-model unit bearing the Consew label. Model 29BL It is obviously out of time. I have found nothing helpful on line. Contacting Consew was a stressful waste. I will not buy another machine bearing that time. Can anyone here point me to timing instructions. I need this machine every day in my shoe shop. I would appreciate any help or advice. Jsmes in NC

I would like to purchase a Landis or American straight needle machine in usable condition. Would prefer something within a few hundred miles of Asheville, NC. i’m also interested in picking up a Landis curved needle as a backup for my 12K. I would love to be able to find the year of manufacture for my Landis 12K Curved Needle. The serial number appears to be 476723.

Thanks for the leads. Gsteway had what I needed. -
Got this machine several months ago, and removed these parts to clean them. Got busy. Misplaced wax pot lid and drip pan. Now I need to use the machine. I would appreciate any leads. I’m in Western NC, but I will talk to anyone in the lower 48 who has parts. James

Earlier this year I bought a Consew 29BL Patcher. While researching thread for this machine, I found something called D/E. I have no idea what it’s made of, its size, or its needle requirements. Can anyone help? Thanks. Jim in NC

I'm late to the party on this machine. If it is still available, I'e like to know. I am also in WNC. I will post an approximation of my email in this response. James H. lostranger (at) mindspring (dot) com

Considering adding another medium duty stitcher. It will not replace my CB 227R, but will be set up to run slightly heavier thread. Been considering one of the 341 clones, but I happened onto a video demoing the CB 6900. It looks interesting, but I’ve yet to find a price or any user feedback. Do any of you use one? I’d love to share that experience. Thanks and Shalom Jim in Marion, NC

Looking for one, but yours is too rich for my blood.

I want to add shoe repair to our harness and general leatherwork business. I would prefer to buy the equipment and contents of an existing shoe shop, but I will consider what shoe repair items you may have case by case. Contact me any way you like. No calls or texts on Saturday. Thanks, Jim eight 2 eight 4 six 0 seven 9 one 3 lostranger (at) mindspring (dot) com

I’m looking for a source for Eddington thread. I’ve been buying it for a couple of years from Solar Leather, and I love it. Now that he is out of business, I cannot find another source. I contacted Bennington, but they did not respond. Surely someone sells their products. Thanks, Jim in NC

Thanks for each comment. Specific sources is what I’m after. I have bookmarked both the sites mentioned by JLSLeather, and I will contact them to discuss my needs. I’d love for more of you to chime in. We’ve done harness and strap goods for a long time and never felt that we needed a clicker. That changed when we broadened our line three years ago. Cutting parts by hand has gotten to be oppressive for the two of us. Most of you know that story.

Are these machines still available?

I need to have several dies made, but the prices I've found so far scare me. Of course I do not want to buy junk, but neither do I want to have to mortgage the farm to buy some dies. Can anyone recommend a reasonably priced source with which you have experience? TIA Jim in NC
