So... in my infinite wisdom and despite my better judgement I decided that because I have made a few leather projects that turned out exceeding my expectations I could sew my name patch and wings onto my Navy issued leather flight jacket by hand. Lo and behold I misplaced the patch on the left breast and basically ruined the leather patch in the process. I don't have a machine and so doing it by hand just turned out to be more of a fight than it was worth. I can get another leather name patch with my wings but I can't get another flight jacket unless I drop 500$ or so on a new one. My question for you all is how can I repair the holes that my awl and needle made in the sheepskin leather? Have you ever had any luck using the leather repair kits found online? Is it pretty easy to match the color and leather texture?

I tried buckleguy out and am extremely happy. Now for the leather part. I haven't found a natural bridle. Is this even possible due to the way they process the leather?

What's the difference between the diamond and European style pricking irons? Pardon the ignorance.

Thank you everyone for this information. This helps a lot.

This is exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks a million.

I've read many previous threads so please excuse if this has been asked and answered. Where can I find a natural colored bridle? Also I'm looking to do a shoulder/messenger bag, will 5 ounce suffice? I want a firm temper and fairly thick but not so that I can't put a couple layers together in the gussets and interior. Also is there another hardware place other than OTB? I'm not finding what I need there and Tandy is absolutely ridiculous. Thank you in advance.

Complete beginner here so please excuse. How did you finish the edges? Complete beginner here so please excuse. How did you finish the edges? -
I've played around but can't seem to figure out the best ratio on the dimensions of the wallet back compared to the dimensions of the interior part where the bills go. In order to fold it there must be a larger piece on the outside than on the inside but I can't seem to get it right. Tips? Tricks? Does anybody have rough dimensions or a rule of thumb that will help me out? Thank you in advance.

Zanderman489- That is correct. The center segment is removable and makes a handle. The center strap is adjustable as far as length also. I wanted a unique look and I didn't want the brass hardware rubbing on the side of the bag. I did use canvas on the inside. The zippered pouch is just a very simple pouch. Nothing fancy, I used the sewing machine (I'm learning the wife's sewing machine) to attach the zipper and to enclose the sides. I'll include a picture if I can remember tomorrow.

I loved the piping, what is that technique? Did you use that to make the edges, where they meet, disappear? The whole bag turned out wonderful.

This is my first leather project, 4th or 5th rendition. 1 and 1/2 sides of kodiak leather later I am proud to post this. I designed it based on ideas of my own as well as inspiration from the internet. I wasn't very efficient with this project due to the fact that I was learning. I could've done smaller and simpler projects but I am one of those that once an idea is in my head it won't come out until brought to fruition. There is much more to learn and I am excited to continue doing more and more. This was a very enjoyable project to complete. I invite you to look and offer suggestions on what you like and what could be improved. Thanks for looking. On to the saddle borne gun scabbard... hundreds more $$$ in leather here I come (not by choice). Recommendation for leather? Happy Friday
