Hi everyone, I have some questions I was hoping to get some help on becuase you all do such awesome work! And I know there are some die hard bike fans on here. I have never done a motorcycle seat before; (I am just experimenting - on my own bike - it is just an old Suzuki dirt bike, lol, almost as old as I am...so yes it needs serious work!). I would like to redo the entire bike this winter, redo the seat, tank, etc. My question is about the seat. I pulled it off yesterday, and of course - it didn't look like much of a seat. It was even hard to tell how it was put together becuase there isnt much of it left. I filled in the holes with some stuff so I have the 'seat shape' and padding back. I am doing the actual seat in two pieces, due to leather quantity that I have on hand, and its mine so I'm not worried about if it isn't proper at this point. I dont have any of the actual black seat leather. I'm using about nine oz. leather. I stuck a coat hanger in through the sides and wrapped it around, cased it (stitched around the coat hanger) and bent it around the edge to the underneath side of the seat. Im not too sure if that is sufficient for holding it though? The clips are mostly rusted off the bottom, but I guess I can make more of those. What in the world can I use on this leather so it is weather resistant? I have no clue. Thanks for any help Cindy

Mmm. Well, my farrier asked me the other day if I could remove duct tape residue from the bottom of his chaps. Has anyone does this before or have any suggestions to try?

I just go to the dollar store and pick up shipping and packaging tape. I tape the back and it keeps it from spreading out. I use that on the back of belts too.

Hi all, My neighbor would like a bison skull painted on the back of his leather jacket. Do you have any suggestions to what type of paint to use that will withstand outdoor use? Also, is there some sort of sealer you use after the painting? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Cindy

I'm just curious what everyone uses to get straight stitch holes/lines to go along with my creaser tool. I just ordered a thonging chisel set for punching the holes. I'm tired of putting them all in with an awl; and thats rough on the wrist and hand. So, what do you use?

The backside of the straps; they feel hard and rough and I am not sure why. The face of the straps feel fine and oiled up nice. I was wondering if it was becuase I dyed them first; Charlie (my buddy that passed away) never dyed the back of straps and I am wondering if this is why. I always thought it was becuase he was being cheap about the dye....or if this was the reason he didn't dye the backs to begin with.

Yikes. I really dont want to cut the straps again...... .....can I save them? They are like hard on the back, all I did is dye them and oil them. Should I have oiled them first? I always thought that you dyed first, then oiled. But it doesn't look good....

Mmmm. I am confused! I made some straps and oiled them with neatsfoot (warm) like a I always do, but they still feel rough and dry on the back. Any suggestions?

I had to do that even with the 8-9 oz. Cut my finger tonight ; seems I do that alot! Better lay off the during work hours....lol.

I seem to be running into a snag as far as what the proper oz. weight is to use for a western bridle. What weight do you use (if you make bridles) and why?
