I dampen the edges, rub parafin (spelling..?) wax on them, then rub the wax again on a piece of canvas. The heat from rubbing it back and forth seems to smooth it out really nice.

My thoughts exactly. Those are more awesome feathers Karl!

Thank you very much for taking the time to explain. I will definatley try it out. When I do, I'll post a pic for you to examine Cindy

Monthly challenge for June
pavilionpony replied to Clay's topic in Special Events, Contests and Classes
Neat thread! it is the weekend... ...I wonder what mine would look like after a few of these? Everyones is very nice! And yes, a tutorial on the rope would be awesome....another hint bruce..... . I do too many horses. I need to start doing other things. -
Mike those are very nice horses ! I still don't understand burnishing other than for the edges. How do you do it to the carving itself?

Thanks everyone! I was having another carving fit today, so I did a paint horse in halter. I'll post him in a few.

I may just have to get that there DVD. I love that feather. I have painted on real ones, I think a carving one then painting a picture on the tip would be really neat.

I apologize for sounding dumb, but what is burnishing? Is that smoothing the edges? I've never heard the word before.

Hi Rob, thank you for the reply. I screwed up on the brow band though so I have to re do it. It is too long. Grrrrr.

Thank you for the info Karl! I love pegasus and want to do a carving with all the wing feathers and stuff. Could prove to be quite a challenge but I'm feeling up to it . Cindy

I've been working on the front flap of a satchel type purse. Let me know what you think of the carving. He's a draft type horse. Cindy

Spider that is absolutely AWESOME!

I've never braided leather before but I thought it would be neat as a bridle. I don't know what this type of braid is called? This may sound dumb, but should I have oiled this before braiding it? I braided it wet with water so the braids would hold their shape. Yikes, now what? How should I go about finishing it up? I have another little braided keeper to make yet for the throat latch strap.
