Thought I would try my hand at this one too.

Saw the coin pouch was the pattern for April's Do Something Challenge. Thought I would make make my interpretation. Comments?

Hey lightingale, the backpack purse was sewn completely on the Cobra Class 4. The foot is a walking foot that comes on the Class 4.

Yes. The strap has a split on the inside for strenght. A piece of piping is placed around the split. Then the soft black leather is folded over it and glued down with Barge. The piping leaves a low spot on one side of the strap.Then the snake print is glued over the seam where the black leather meets in the low spot. Sew it down and ready to go. Hope thats clear. If not let me know.

Been working on the Do Something Challenge this month. Just finished it up. Ended up changing a few things, but I was happy with the result.

Does it have to be exactly like the pattern? Or can you vary it a bit for personal style?

Spent a little some making a mask for a New Years Eve party. Since I have not posted for a while, I thought I would put it up today.

I did. The rope was fastened to the edge of the turntable. Then a thinner leather was wet-formed over the rope. .The final detail is modeled in after the leather drys a bit.

This is a storyboard for how to do a feather. I use this for classes, so I thought I would post it here. This feather is designed after a Barn Owl feather. This is one of the primary flight feathers. The board is designed to be read from the left top to bottom. Finished on right. Get your correct moisture content in the leather. Cool to the touch, but not wet looking on the surface. 1. Draw out feather, cut and deep bevel. The deep bevel makes it eaiser to undercut later without damaging the background. 2. Next use angled line beveler tool to start the lines in the feather. I used the Hidecrafter PB016. Tip it so it bevels deep at the vein. Use a modeling tool to round over the vein of the feather. 3. Us the multi blade tool to take the lines to the edge of the feather. 4. Take a scalpel and undercut the feather. Just split the leather, don't cut through. This should be done while the leather is still damp. Using the modeling tool, pull the edges of the feather from the background. At this point you can either cut the feather free of the background, or leave it attached and make the background part of the picture. If you leave it attached, use a background tool to texture. Go across the cut line and under the edge of the feather. This helps hide the cut mark. 5. Next add color. The panel on the right shows the finished owl feather. The paint is a thinned acrylic. The markings from a picture I took of a Barn Owl feather. I hope some of you decide to make feathers. I look forward to seeing them.

Love the nano cover. Nicely constructed. I like your design better than the ones I have made in the past. Does it have a clip on the back? Great work on the bamboo too. I have a picture coming up soon with bamboo in it. Now I can see how to do it. Nice work!

It was all done with one blade. The SK 3 swivel knife with a 3/8" straight blade. The only difference is the depth of the cuts.

Very nice work. A great way to add the leather look to another great hobby, firearms. Now I'm thinking I will have to make one. Did you just measure and build it, or did you work from a pattern? Also where you have the end cap sewn in, is the seam raised? Did you put any padding under it to soften the kick? How does it feel when you shoot? Good job. Thanks for posting. Randahl

This was made entirely with swivel knife cuts. No other tools were used in the making of the picture. There is also no color or finish on it. I originaly made this to enter in a contest that required only knife work. It did well in the contest and I told several members that I would post it here. I plan to bevel and background it soon. Doing a "fingercut" picture was a lot of fun and I will be doing some more of this type work. Questions? Comments? Thanks for looking. Randahl

Thanks for the comments guys. This is a stand alone piece. I had been wanting to do an angel for a while. This one will end up in a frame. The coloring ia acrylic. Thinned down to a lighter shade.
