  1. That look like fun. It's funny how dogs like to have a job to do. It's like it helps their self esteem or something.
  2. I hope they have some video of it in action. I've heard #9 had a very cool looking stitch and different from a regular sewing machine. I've never seen it but would like to. BTW, what does "square feed" mean?
  3. They list these prices for the 5 inch arm model as $1,195.00, which sounds very appealing.
  4. Ryan, You mean a small version of the #9? How thick of leather were they stitching? S.
  5. In the May/June issue of The Saddler's Journal there's and ad by Luberto saying they we going to introduce two new leather stitchers at the Sheridan show, "the Classic Cub and Classic Club II". But there's no info about them on their website. Did anyone happen to see them, and if you did what did you think? Thanks, Steve
  6. Happy Birthday to you Bruce.
  7. Bruce, That's very nice and clean, with a good layout. It must be a joy to work there. Steve
  8. Janne, Your shoes and boots look great. If you ever come out to Los Angeles to teach shoe making I'd take your class. I found this shoe on you site and want to learn how to make them. What level of shoemaking is this one considered? Steve
  9. Thanks for the info both of you.
  10. There's an old Rex #26-188 for sale for $225. Is this machine good for lighter leathers? Is that a good price? Thanks Steve
  11. Hi Bryan, Here's a link to a thread that's already going. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=16635 I'm still thinking about going, but it's eleven and a half hours from here by car. Steve
  12. Very nice. I really like the books you've done. Are they blank books?
  13. Thanks Art. I called Al, what a great guy. What he told me about his class is "I'll give you everything I got for two days. I have a lesson outline but I'll accommodate what the student wants as well. " The project will be a western floral 9x6 day planner with gusset and liners. The first day in the morning he will give a demonstration in pattern layout and swivel knife cutting, in the afternoon the students will put it into practice and start working on the day planner. The second day we finish the day planner. Anyone else from Los Angeles (the Valley) going?
  14. Does anyone know what project Al Gould will be doing in his two day seminar, or who any of the vendors are?
  15. Cobra Steve, It was good talking to you on the phone. I now realize it's not worth it for me to mess around with a used sewing machine. Time is money, as they say. For the time I spend messing with a used one I could have bought a new one with a warranty and customer service for the same cost. Kevin, I know that's what you already told me that but I needed to do the "math" myself. Thank you all for helping out with my questions. Steve
  16. Art, If I go for a new one I will for sure buy from Steve. What exactly is a "needle feed" and why do I need it? Thanks so much for your help, Steve
  17. Russ, Thanks for the info. Does that model of Viking have a walking foot? I think I need a walking foot. Do I? I don't know? I'm confused. Steve
  18. Art, Thanks for all the info. Right now what I need is a machine that can sew thinner leathers like wallet interiors, and up to two pieces 9oz at the most. So this style of machine would work for me. I'm just trying to figure out what my best options are. If I get a used machine for $500 then have to add a servo and speed reducer for $300 I'm up to $800, plus my time and frustration. What would a new machine comparable to the Consew 226 already set up for leather cost? Steve
  19. Thanks for the replies. Here's a couple more questions. What's the optimum motor speed rating for a leather sewing machine? How are walking feet for leather different than other materials? BTW this is what the add says that I'm looking at: We have a few sewing machines available complete with table and motor: *Pfaff 145 walking foot w reverse for upholstery...$695 obo *Brother 797 walking foot w reverse for upholstery...$700 *Consew 226R walking foot w reverse for upholstery(2 available)...$695 All machines above will handle heavy sewing like leathers and are perfect for upholstery. *Willcox & Gibbs 5 thread overlock really clean...$625 *Kansai Special cover stitch...$550 *Pfaff bar tack...$550 *Taiko single needle...$300 *Consew 210 single needlew reverse..$250 *Chandler single needle...$295
  20. You feedback please. I've seen some machine on craigslist that say "perfect for upholstery". What does that really mean? Does it mean they should work for leather as well without any parts being replaced? Does it mean they should go slow with a lot of torque? Thanks in advance, Steve
  21. Welcome to board Chris. It's always great to see someone new from L.A join the board. Maybe someday we'll be able to return Los Angeles to the leather working Mecca it once was.
  22. Paul at Leather Wranglers has some nice looking interiors that would cut the time way down. Plus he's always ready to help out and answer questions. http://www.leatherwranglers.com/craftsupplies.html Steve
