  1. Thanks, Dwight. You always seem to have the right answers - can I come apprentice with you some weekend? Edit: I'm 6'1", 190, so I understand where you're coming from on holster comfort.
  2. It seems that the typical way folks mold holsters involves sandwiching the gun/blank between two layers of leather sewn together, which means the gun ends up stretching the leather outwards on both sides. Wouldn't a holster be more comfortable to carry on the belt if the back panel of the holster was more flat (but formed on a curve) and only the outside panel doing the molding around the gun? Or would retention of the gun suffer as a result?
  3. Are there any holster makers in North Carolina, southern VA, or SC that would let me come for a visit to watch and learn about making holsters? I'd be glad to jump in and help with any manual labor involved in the process or trade some carpentry/painting/home repair in exchange for educating me.
  4. The type of construction of this holster - what is it called? It looks simpler to make than the typical double layer holster construction. What would be the disadvantages of this type of construction?
  5. Just an FYI - It's not illegal for the CONSUMER to remove the tags from their mattresses. Read what it says.
  6. Thanks, gentlemen. I believe between the two of those places I can find what I'm looking for.
  7. Can anyone recommend somewhere that I can get quality clips for IWB holsters?
  8. Wes, I don't know - I probably should. But I'd have to hand stitch them and that would take a couple of hours at least. Plus all the other time I'd have in it. I believe I'll just do a half-day home repair job for one of my neighbors and just pay you pros to do it.
  9. Can anyone here make me an avenger style holster for a Sig P232?
  10. Does anyone have a good recommendation for a link to a DIY vacuum former?
  11. Does anyone here use a foam press to mold their leather holsters? I ask because I was talking to a holster maker at today's gun show in Raleigh and the guy said that he uses a foam press to mold his holsters. I know that foam presses are typically used for kydex holsters, but I didn't know about them being used for leather.
  12. Thanks, y'all. I'll give it a go and let you know how it turns out.
  13. I've already been dabbling in leather work for the past couple of years making wallets and pouch style shoulder holsters for my revolvers. I now need an Avenger style holster for my J-frame snubby. How do I go about doing this without a blue gun? It looks like the blue guns are not cheap. Should I use my actual gun since it is Scandium frame and shouldn't rust. Any ideas? Also, will I be able to make a decent mold with good retention without a vacuum system? Perhaps I should leave holster making to you experts.
  14. Thanks a bunch, SunLynx. I'm going to try making one myself, as I have a very small wrist and am always searching for bands for my watches. BTW, where do you get your buckles?
  15. Perhaps I'll figure out a way to afix a swivel knife blade to a craft knife handle like Contact mentioned.
  16. Which do you prefer for most of your stamping?
  17. I can do either. What is the recommended procedure for applying Tan-Kote? To spray, I would assume you'd need to thin the Tan-Kote with something in order to get it to spray well.
  18. Thanks. I tried rubbing it with a paper towel, but it didn't do much of anything. Hopefully when I put Tan-Kote on it and buff it it will go away.
  19. Aha! I had thought about that a couple of days ago...and then forgot it when I did it today. Thanks for that recommendation.
