  1. Hi deb - I sent you a PM the other day - will send you another one - thank you!
  2. Thanks Bruce, that is what I was afraid of.. ...I don't know why, but when I went to sew on the corner pieces, my sewing machine "bunched" up and the material didn't feed through the machine evenly, so the stitching was all messed up....so I had to pick the corner plates off; it was a lot of work to tool them, i was pretty proud of them, all to be ruined by the machine. Pretty frustrating. I guess I could just hold on to the pad and put it back in my unfinished project's bin and one day get back to making corner plates for it again; it is just so frustrating to spend that much time tooling something, then ruin it with the sewing machine. I also tried putting paper bag on the back side when I sewed it; someone had recommended that, then peel the bag away - that didn't work well either :0(. Thanks again. Charlene
  3. Hi all - I had a leather corner plate that I tooled and glued down on a Mayatex wool san juan saddle pad; 100% woven wool pad....When I went to sew it, I had some problems, so I had to take the decorative leather off - I don't want to tool it again, but is there any way to remove the contact cement off of the pad so I can sell the pad....or am I going to be forced to tool 2 more corner plates to fit over the top of where I originally glued the first two down before I tried to sew them down? The residue isn't bad - just a tad bit sticky and enough to see that something was there....but there has to be a way to get this stuff off? Charlene
  4. Hi Deb, The attachment didn't come through - it sounds like what I am looking for; I have one of Tandy's that has the instructions but came more as a "kit" I think it was the 1905 model; I also just bought the Roper instructions. I would be willing to pay you for the time and cost for copies if you didn't mind doing that for me? I think it sounds like one I could modify. I am excited.....I know the people that have offered to help have meant well, they just haven't had the time to trace patterns and get them to me, but I am just so anxious to get working on my saddle - have had the ground seat in for 2 years and the rest just sitting there....staring at me! thanks! if you could either PM me the picture just to make sure or try posting it again - that would be great! thanks again! Charlene
  5. "Wyoming" when you mean saddle stitching you mean like with regular sewing machine stitching correct? Then that would work - I never thought about lacing and sitting on it - that wouldn't be too comfortable - guess that alone answered my question; The man I am making this for sits a lot on a tractor, thus wore out the first wallet sitting on it...so I suppose lacing is out! Thanks a lot! Charlene
  6. Sorry , i was in a hurry this morning - Chaylor-Fennelli was what I meant, and other than Tandy, haven't seen too many other wallet inserts for sale - thanks all, will check out your advice! Charlene
  7. When making mens wallets - are there any other popular options for finishing the edges other than braiding? I imagine you could just sew the edges together, but does anyone have any pictures of how this would look? AND - Does anyone know of any companies that sell wallet liners other than Tandy and Taylor-Fanelli? (might have that last one a little off) but are there other options for inserts? Thank you all Charlene
  8. I don't know if people are taking offense to my post, but I am surprised no one has replied to it - but can you please deleted it? It is under: Leatherworker.net > Fabrication > Patterns and Templates Post title: WANTED: Saddle Pattern for reining saddle or pleasure - thank you Charlene Name: Charlene Stovin UserName: equiss IP Address: 159.121.178.249 Email Address: cstovin@msn.com
  9. Hi All, I have been trying for some time to get ahold of a saddle pattern that needs very little modification (I realize I will have to make modifications for the tree, etc) so I can get moving with my first saddle. I am not good at making my own patterns, but once I have one, can modify it slightly yo fit my needs. I have had offers for people to send me one, but have never followed through and just can't wait anymore. I am willing to pay a reasonable (what we can agree on) amount for a pattern to get me started. I have tried the Stolhman books, the style is just too far out of line from what I am trying to make for me to modify and get what I am looking for, plus I have "confidence" issues in my work. I also have the Dusty Johnson patterns, but not too thrilled with those; I have been trying to make a pattern for an 8-button wade for a few years with little success, but also want to make a reining saddle; Anyone willing to share a basic pattern for a modest or reasonable price, please contact me - I REALLY want to move forward with my saddle, but am good at modifying things - but am not good at picturing and making my own patterns.....and am REALLY stuck. I did look at the leather library and noticed they have a roper pattern on there so I suppose that might be worth a try, but wanted to put this out there first and see if there is anyone willing to help me thank you! 10. I never would have thought to check Wal Mart for flasks...thanks, will check that out. And thanks for the thoughts on Etsy. I did a market a while back and did notice that Id didn't have enough or actually any things for men, so thought maybe this would be a good item - at least a good converstation piece - thanks again!
  11. thanks, I was hoping to get some more ideas. The tandy flasks are ok, but I want to find a supplier for some nicer ones.....but needed some ideas on what people charge for them - I honestly have no idea where to start - thanks again!
  12. How much do you guys charge for 6oz and 8 oz tooled flasks? I have three options I need help pricing in both the 6oz and 8oz size 1) flask with a few words - papa's punch; somthing like that then background stamped for the rest 2) flask with one flower and a few leaves, fairly large to cover most of front, rest background stamped 3) basket stamped what would you charge for these at both the 6 oz and 8oz sizes? I don't have any done so I don't have pictures, I am also looking for a flask supplier - anyone have any ideas on that? I know tandy sells the kits, but I would rather find a little nicer flask than what comes in the kits. thanks all Charlene
  13. Hi all, I have a friend that wants me to make her spur straps for a pair of toddler spurs. Making them isn't really a problem, except I have no idea what the measurements (approximate) would be appropriate, like the length of the strap that has the holes is; and unfortunately neither one of us have a toddler available. Can someone give me some idea of how long these things should be? Thanks much! Charlene
  14. Thanks Shelly, the fenders are already pre-turned, but this lady wants the twist added - problem is I usually don't do saddle repairs, I do small things. I don't know that I have the tools to take the blevis off and re-rivet them back in place....but I guess a rivet setter isn't that much, but probably about as much as it would be to charge her to have this done. thanks for the info.....
  15. Hello all, I need some help and advice I have a new saddle that a client is bringing in that she wants me to put a Nevada twist on the stirrups/fenders; I thought in order to do this correct you had to install the belvins backwards.....so what if they are installed the normal way. Can someone explain how I can accomplish this with fenders/leathers that are already made? I only have tonight and tomorrow and maybe part of Wednesday to get this done.... And if anyone has some pictures - that would help me IMMENSELY! thank you all - just not sure how to do this, but know it isn't that hard! Charlene
  16. How come the pictures don't show up?
  17. DO you have any red and black?
  18. How much do you charge for something like this - BEAUTIFUL!!!
  19. Sent you another PM, will try to call you today, been hectic at work and haven't been getting home until late :0)
  20. Cool idea - thanks for sharing, am going to give it a try with some flowers and leaves and see what happens!
  21. Thank you all for the suggestions, I still have a lot to learn even though I feel I've made progress. I didn't even know you could buy NeatLac in a bottle vs. spray can. So, I have the spray can, but I would like to try the bottle. And this gives me some ideas. I tried again the other night to do another piece, and it came out more "medium brown" all over than "antique" looking, and it was floral with background tooling, so I think what you have said will help a lot - thank you for taking the time! Charlene
  22. I tried the neet lac and will have to try that again...it still didn't work as expected, but maybe I let it sit too long. It sat for a few days before I went to apply the antique gel. Or maybe not enough Neet Lac? But will try again, disappointed thinking I should have left the tooling a natural finish......I don't know why I have to make everything harder than it is, just my nature I guess, or my nature is that everything comes harder for me than it should thanks for the advice PS - I am trying to use the antiqu paste, not dye - sorry for the mis-information
  23. Hi Rick, Actually, I had sent you a message with my address, but never got the pattern - would still be more than happy to send you the money it cost you for time and materials to get it copied. Did we talk about a full size pattern as well recently? Hope you are well - Charlene
  24. Wow - that is so much fun, that is on my project "to do" list....one day. I actually thought it might be easier to build a 1/2 scale before a full size, but patterns are always an issue for me. I am not good at taking the stohlman, Dusty, etc. and blowing them up and then changing them.....that is so cute!
