Hi all, I want to figure carve a reining horse, rider, and the traditional "flying dirt" that trails behind - does anyone have a pattern of something like that or would be able to draw one? I can't draw to save my life, I can find the silhoutte ones that would work, but I want to figure carve one, so I need the details! thanks all!

Hi Mark, Hope you don't get offended, but do you have a die you use for your headstalls, or do you cut them by hand? I keep trying to do them by hand and they just never turn out right Thanks Charlene

Hi All, I haven't posted for a while, but have been busy with work and trying to get my leatherwork in as I can....but I have almost qualified in amateur reining for the AQHA World show in November. This is a real honor for me, and would be a tremendous honor and experience just to be able to attend. A little about me: I work full time as a software analyst, currently I am also going to school and am finishing my pre-requisits for nursing school and have applied for fall 2010 admission to Oregon Health Sciences University. In my spare time (all I can fit in) I am learning how to build saddles, but also do the gamut of smaller leather goods, and visit here when I can. I made a"newsletter" to send to local businesses, but as of yet haven't sent it out - but I attached a copy of it here that explains a little about what reining is (my event), what the World show is, and I am trying to raise at least 1/2 of the amount needed to go. (about $2000), the sponsorship form, and some pictures of Rudy and I. So I thought I would share my dream with you, and if you want to help us get to the World, anything is appreciated. If not, and just want to hopefully cheer me on, that is great too! This is a great community, and I appreciate everyone who has spent time replying to my endless "pleas" for help on my projects! Thanks all! Hope everyone had a happy Easter! testfinish.pdf testfinish.pdf

Hi Oscar! Thank You! I have tried everything to get to read the instructions and just couldn't get it to work so I could make them out! thanks for taking the time! Charlene
-
I just can't get the instructions to the point I can read them......we don't have a magnifier, and maybe I am not enlarging it correctly - but just can't get it to where I can read it! PS - will be sending you $$ hopefully this week! thanks!

Yes, I did find I think two that they have, so I will order those if nothing else - thanks for the help, we don't have many resources around here in terms of people willing to mentor, so books, magazines, and videos are the best I can do thanks again!

Thanks, I will contact him again, I bought a whole lot from him a while ago, and I think these are ones I was not able to buy from him, but I will check again thanks much!

Hi All, I am wanting to complete my collection of leather crafters and saddlers journals. I use these quite a bit for tools, since we don't have much local "help" or people to go to for advice....I can only buy a few copies at a time, but am listing all that I am looking for. I would prefer that they have the pattern pull outs, since I use those a lot. I have all the ones offered by the leather crafters and saddlers journal for back issues (I think).... Volume 1 Number 1Volume 1 Number 2Volume 11Number 1Volume 11Number 2Volume 13Number 4Volume 16Number 1Volume 17Number 2Volume 17Number 4;Volume 17Number 5;Volume 2Number 1;Volume 2Number 2;Volume 2Number 3;Volume 2Number 4;Volume 2Number 5;Volume 3Number 1;Volume 3Number 3;Volume 3Number 5;Volume 4Number 1;Volume 4Number 2;Volume 4Number 4;Volume 4Number 5;Volume 4Number 6;Volume 5Number 1;Volume 5Number 2; This is only about 1/2 of my list, and as I said I can only buy a few at a time due to my budget, but if you have some you want to part with, let me know - thanks! Hi Bruce, I looked at the picture, I thought rope cans were 100% covered, so that was why I asked - but the picture is cool! So you just cover the tops and bottoms? When you first started making these kinds of things, how did you get the word out - did you go to Rodeo's and have a booth? Do you do any trade or consumer shows? Just curious - these are too cool! I am just starting working cow horse, but maybe down the road I'll need one!

WOW - that is beautiful. Since I am pretty new to projects like this, can I ask a few questions? how much time from start to finish (granted you probabyl had a pattern already close to done that was modified) did it take you to make this can for him? Can you take a picture from the side? I haven't done one yet, but really want to - this is really beautiful! Charlene
-
Those are really nice! What background tool do you use for the background? I have been trying to get that affect and can't seem to get it done - those are really nice!
-
WOW -those are great, I am about to start my first pair.....does Bob Klenda sell patterns? If so, maybe I should wait until I can order one from him? That looks like a really good pattern, and I would LOVE mine to turn out that good! Good job! Charlene

Was anyone able to download this so that when printed it can be read? I really want to work on it, but can't read the instructions

equiss replied to Elton Joorisity's topic in Saddle & Tack Maker Gallery
Hi there, I have a friend that I would like to make at least the bronc noseband for a halter for her.....would you mind sharing the measurements of the nosepiece? I am not sure how big they are, have never seen one in person - this is beautiful - hope mine comes out as well! Charlene Stovin -
Thanks Bob, for those of us that are fairly new to the trade, and need all the advice we can get, things like this are invaluable - thank you for taking the time to pass on to others, I really appreciate the time that you spent to put this together! 3 CHEERS! Happy Holidays! Charlene Stovin

Hi Tim, How did you learn to do your first pair? I just bought leather to make my first pair, and I don't know how to get started. I imagine buy a pattern? What do you suggest? My largest concern is that I want them to fit properly.....suggestions on how you got started with something new? These are beautiful, my leather is the same color, so I am really excited to start and see what comes out of it! And, by the way, I migth have to buy heavier leather, but what weight is recommended for chaps and chinks? Charlene Stovin

That is beautiful!! Did you have a pattern? I can't seem to do anything without a pattern- or can you tell me how thick the outer piece is and the lining? WOW!

That is beautiful!!! Once you painted it, do you have to use anything to seal it? Wow - wish I knew how to do something like that - this is GREAT! -
