  1. Hello everyone, I am hoping that someone out there can help me, I would like to make some portfolio, paper carriers, zippered binders like the picture shown that is off of a website under the directors chair post, but I haven't the slightest idea where to start. I have all the Stohlman construction secrets books, but still - I don't have a clue on how a person would go put on together and make a pattern for the folio, card case slots, and pen slot. Anyone have a pattern that they would be willing to share with me? OR, instructions on how to get startd with just a basic zippered portfolio?
  2. You will have to excuse my ignorance, but where does one find a servo motor (what is that anyway) and are speed reducers really expensive? The motor on this one is pretty large, case looks almost as big as my Toro 3000, but I don't know where to find what I need, and most importantly, at what we can afford - might have to wait a while I suspect.
  3. Thank you all, I got an awsome deal on the machine, and was just a little surprised when it literally came to life, (and just about sewed over my fingers).....thanks, and will look at trying to find some of the items that you suggested. Hope that I can find one/them used......but, none the less, this is a start - thanks again!
  4. Hi there, I finally found a really nice used machine, a consew 206RB-5 - do I need to buy a reducer to keep it from going from 0 to 2000 stitches per minute in .2 seconds or less? It seems like there is no in between, it is all or nothing. I can't find anything on how to control the speed (other than the pressure on the treadle of corse) in the instructions, so I don't know what the problem is, or if I need to buy a reducer or what am I missing? ANY help appreciated, I am excited to use it, but at this point, can't keep it slow enough !!
  5. Hi there, I am looking for a lighter weight sewing machine, for smaller projects. I bought an Artisan 3000 thinking that it would be good for anything, not realizing that for smaller items, it would be best to get something smaller. Do you still have the machine, and would you have a way to package it for delivery to Oregon?
  6. That is really nice! Pretty impresive. What kind of shows do you take your items to?
  7. Hi there, these are BEAUTIFUL!!!! I want to learn to make different things than what I have been traditionally exposed to (saddles, headstalls, etc) but if a person has never made anything like this before, how do you learn? There don't seem to be patterns and instrustions that you can buy :0) But, how do you learn to cover picture frames, cover boxes, make cases like these? It is beautiful!
  8. I can't get the URL to work, just keeps saying it is unavailable, or 404 can not be found - any ideas?
  9. That helps, I wasn't aware that you actually "cover" an existing can - but make all the pieces (tops, sides, handles, etc) and then glue and stitch them together, so now I guess I better find out what a "bare" rope canister looks like!
  10. Does anyone have any patterns that they can share on how to make a covered canteen and custom leather rope canisters (ropes as in rodeo, roping, etc)......I would appreciate any advice or patterns that I can get on construction and assembly, I don't really know where to start - thanks much!
  11. Thank you all for the information, unfortunately, I had just started wanting to do saddlery when I bought the Toro - I really like it, but I didn't realize how much I would be doing smaller lighter projects - so now I have no clue what is sufficient, and can't spend a ton of money on another machine.......I am still in process of building my first saddle, and I should have waiting until I knew more about what I was going to do - but I love the Toro, and will continue to try to learn to make my own saddlery - but want a light weight model and just don't have a clue! Thanks a bunch, I appreciate all of the help, now off to see about what one of these can cost! Char
  12. Hi there, I have a toro 3000 that we bought to do headstalls and saddlery on, what I didn't expect was to also want to do more "craftlike" projects like watch bands, wallets, small purses.....what I don't know are what machines are best for these types of lighter weight work. I would look for something used, but I need some input and on what brands/models of machines are best for light work. Thank you all for any advice/input that can help Char
  13. Hi allI wanted to make some small projects, and need some pieces of chap leather, each piece approximately 24" X 21", I would like some of all colors, but can not afford to buy a whole hide, so am looking for someone who might want to sell some small pieces, or might be able to tell me of a place that sells by the sq. foot - rather than by the hide. Thanks Much!
  14. Hello all, I wanted to buy a copy in good condition of F.O. Bairds book from the Stohlman library, I think that it is called "Our Secrets". It is hard bound, and is the same size, color, as the saddle making series - Please contact if you want to sell a copy
  15. Hi All, I am looking for, and not having much luck, a used Standard Ruvet and Die company #2 spot setter - it is their "intro" lower priced model for those on a budget - new around $550 - but I was HOPING to find a used one reasonably priced. If you have one for sale, I would love to hear about it
  16. Those are great! Thanks for sharing! That is just what I was hoping to find!
  17. Hi Tina, I can't get the thumbnail to enlarge - is there anyway that you could email it to me? I would love to see the pattern.
  18. Actually, I had one other question/thought - does anyone have any pictures of any that they have done that they could share? I would love to see some
  19. Hi there, I would have NEVER thought of using cookie cutters as templates! That is a great idea - goes to show you how someone that is trained to think outside of the box so to speak didn't see what seems so obvious! I did order the back issue of Dec 07 Leather Crafters and Saddlers journal, and maybe they will have some in this years issue! Thank you for the thoughts......
  20. Hi All, I was wanting to know if anyone has some good patterns, any skill rate, for leather Christmas tree ornaments? I imagine a person could have a lot of fun making some, and I am sure that there are patterns out there, but I haven't been able to find any, or even any ideas - can someone help me out?
  21. Hi Rick - did you get my home mail address? I didn't want to put it on the board, but I did email it to you, please let me know if you got it - I CAN'T WAIT! I have to put in a tandy order, anything stand out that I need (probably a lot of things) - guess I can also be patient too, but it isn't my strong suit! Thanks s much
  22. Oh my Gosh! That is so cute! That is exactly what I have been looking for - if needed, there is also an option of taking them to a "blueprint" printer - I will pay your costs - so please let me know what your time and effort are worth - this is going to be so fun! Can't wait Charlene Stovin
  23. Hi Rick That is EXACTLY what I am looking for, I can pay you for your time, materials, shipping, etc - but that is so exciting! I have been looking for something like this for a long time - please let me know what you need and I can get it to you -
  24. Hello All, I have been working on my first saddle forever, and am not getting very far very fast - but does anyone know or can sell me a pattern for a miniature western saddle? I am looking for something decorative - not the tandy mini saddle - but something that is just about 1/8" scale or so from an original. Since I haven't been successful making a large saddle, I was at least hoping maybe I could find a pattern or kit for a miniature model thanks for any input or information that you migth have
