  1. I know what you mean, as soon as some people find that there is money to be made they come up with all sorts of psudo science and ruin the products to make maximum profit. Its very hard these days and a lot of research to actually find out what you are actually buying. This has the effect of spoiling the market for thoes companies that are authentic and usually are not chasing profit just happy customers. Makes me mad.
  2. I have never had that? I use raw beeswax filtered from a local bee keeper, when you melt it it kind of smells of honey.
  3. Well i was playing with some beeswax and made some waterproofer / conditioner. 45% beeswax 55% neatsfoot oil End result is like a firm butter or sno seal. Melts eaisly without being greasy or oily. Just rub it on then heat with a hair dryer and buff. This is a video of testing on raw veg tan after two coats.
  4. Light is the key (not to be confused with a key light lol) i just use my conservatory, nice soft lighting, or hang a white sheet over a window. Also on an android phone the app snapseed is really great for post processing. .
  5. I needed a case for my vernier calipers that are 25 years old. This is my first real bit of leatherwork, really pleased with the end result. I dont have a makers stamp so will just put little hand carved feathers on stuff i make
  6. I have been following this topic a very interesting read. I spray my leather with a fine mist spray of water. Then use a wool dauber, and just put a good coat on comes out real nice. This is with the feibings alcohol dye. I do find it much too dark tho. So only just today i have tryed diluting 3 to 1 bio ethanol to dye, it came out great, much better colour and more control. Left is just dye, right is diluted. Its a lot darker than on the picture. Mahogany.
  7. That is very cool, great idea. I have liquid on the way so thanks for the heads up will be extra careful of drips
  8. I have some loctite on the way I am also trying to make a design with acces to the stud back, but its not a neat as hiding in the layers still working on it tho.
  9. I will be using some Sam Brown Studs which i really like. The problem i have is they have a screw back, so does that mean you have to have access to the back to be able tighten in the future if it ever gets loose, or do you use some kind of thread lock liquid? Thanks
  10. Well this is my first finished bit of leatherwork. The storm trooper artwork is done by my son so its his coaster. Used linen thread just an awl for the holes. Treated with dubbin tallow, waxes and oils, and slicked the edges with dubbin also.
  11. Well i wanted a lacing pony but didnt want to spend any money. So i made this one, the idea is that its easy packable and portable, parallel jaws for maxium friction so minimum pressure needed. Its just two boards, rounded and split leather added, at the bottom spacers added, just turn them around for no space, one layer spacer or two layer spacer. To keep jaws parallel to your work. Then tiny sash cramps, to add pressure but to also use as support on top of your knees, this way you can adjust the height perfectly.
  12. Yes i like creative I found some of my old embossing tools for card and stencils they are all metal so might work.
  13. Brilliant thanks for the advice
