I've also been thinking about carving a brand. I have never attempted carving and would like to use this as an opportunity to learn. What would be the essential carving tools needed to carve the lettering and perhaps a design by hand? Thanks, ed

Sorry for the typo, Daryl.Do you lazer engrave this lind of work?ed Thanks so much for all the feedback. So far, I like "Elegant Simplicity," "Functional Elegance," and "Functional Simplicity".ed

Daryl, Do you glazer ingrave this kind of work? ed

Daryl, That is awesome. What program did you use? I like the way you used up the white space. I think I'm leaning more towards "Elegant Simplicity" just the way you have it on the bottom. Thanks so much for the improvement on the logo. Ed

I like that creaser, too. I just bought the Osborne #2, but don't know if it's as big.I also have a camping stove that runs on a variety of fuels. What I like about the glass alcohol lamp i just got is that it looks mysteriously medieval, at least a bit.Tony, could you post some pics of the creases you make with your setup? Thanks for the informative post.ed

I was afraid of that. I was hoping that maybe someone in England or Europe might have a lead on them. Thanks, ed -
small quantities of general purpose silicone lube
esantoro replied to esantoro's topic in Marketing and Advertising
can any of you see a need for this type of friction fighting, non-thread lube, silicon lubricant? I can't. But at $4.95 for a .5 oz. bottle, Sailrite is marking the stuff up more than 30 times cost, minus cost for plastic bottle. ed -
Just heard back from Jeff Mosby. He can make my 2" oval of any dimension with a 2" width. Once I get my midas punch, i'll go from there. I still may need to get another punch better suited for a 2" oval (The Midas punch is 2 3/4" wide, perhaps only 1/4" wider than what I need for a punch). Any suggestions for 2" oval dimensions would be great. ed

small quantities of general purpose silicone lube
esantoro replied to esantoro's topic in Marketing and Advertising
Hi Art, I called around. Basically the lube I have has more silicone in it, as well as paraffin wax and whatever else. Clearco has something called clearslip #2, which is more for spraying on surfaces to provide less friction, and has lower levels of solids , waxes , and oils. That particular bottle of silicone that Sailrite sells is most likely this or something similar. Both lubes are similar, and toxicity is very low, but they are not the same. Condoms.......................................................I knew this silicone lube felt familiar. Ed -
Can anyone recommend a good smallish anvil for punching out 2" ovals and stamping them? Is a marble slab enough, or is it begging to be broken? Ed

nice belt, steve. What do you use for a groover to keep the trough so straight? ed -
From time to time I see small bottles of general purpose silicone lube for sale. Is it possible that this lube is the very same silicone thread lube that some people use in their lube pots, and of which I have about four gallons sitting around waiting to pay for itself? Ohio Travel Bags does not carry this 3-position brass latch, and I believe they are now only available in England. Might anyone know where else it is possible to buy these? Thanks, ed

two layers of 5/7 oz latigo skived to a combined 4mm, 207/277 coats peasant, organ 25 tri point, slotted needle plate. 441 clone.

Here are the pics. Tension is the same for both threads, Organ 25 tri point, 207/277. Leather is latigo from Siegel's. Larger piece of scrap is the American & Efird thread. first pic on left is of bobbin thread. ed

This is a very useful bit of knowledge, Kevin. Thanks. Ed

There sure are some nice people in this industry. I've made the calls. The thread that's not workin' out is going back. I've been looking for an excuse to get into some Eddington. I like the texture of what I got from the Thread exchange, but chestnut colors were off. Not a problem if i could use same thread top and bottom, but I can't. Have to go 207/277. Put in the call to Campbell Bosworth for Deer and chestnut. I'm ready to toll for 2008. Hermes and Ghurka, here I come. ed

Another option for the test: 1. Same positioning, but "Elegant" instead of "Elegance" 2. I like the middle design Harper Stamps uses in its PDF flyer, attached. I was thinking of something like Thoreau's shack on the cover page of an early edition _On Walden Pond_. Just thinkin' out loud again, ed

Steve, What size mallet do you use? Thanks, ed

Hi Steve, Your stamps leave a great impression. Are you using a mallet or a press? Ed

Hi Art, I ran a test and took pics. I'll post later tonight. About the outer filament popping and creating a fuzziness: This is related to a question I had a while back. Is there a certain point that tells you you've got too much top tension and should be backing off there and loosening up the bobbin tension, even though the bobbin tension appears to be as loose as you would want to go, and knots appear to be in the leather and not showing on either the top or bottom? it seems that there is a nagging voice telling me that I should just stick with 207 top and bottom (never had this problem) on two and three layers of 5/6 chrome tan, though there is also a voice telling me 277 top looks nice and is doable. Right now, there are at least nine threads showing on the primary and secondary tensioners. Bobbin tension is, in my opinion, as loose as I'd want to go. Any looser, in my opinion, would allow the bobbin thread to come out of the bobbin spring pincers. This is with a 25 Organ diamond point needle, 277 top, 207 bottom. Again, pics will help, which I'll post tonight. Thanks,

I've emailed and called Jeff Mosby at Grey Graphics. Still waiting to hear back. But I was wondering, would you say that Jeff's 2" ovals have the same dimensions all around as Infinity's 2" ovals, which are 2" wide by 1.25" tall. I used the oval on Infinity's Brochure for the black and white pic I posted. I figure I should get an oval punch has a 3/16" larger circumference than the border on Jeff's 2" oval, a margin for stitching the punched stamp fob. Ed
