Hi everyone! I'm hoping someone can help me with my dilemma. I have a logo that I want to emboss on my leather bags. I've done a bunch of research and it seems like an arbor press and brass plate are the way to go in veg tanned leather, BUT i use chromium dyed leather! I'm wondering if someone can give me advice here. Will an arbor press work on this soft leather? If so, do I need a 1 ton or 2 ton? And any recommendations on what type of stamp to get- do i need a brass one? or I've seen some people who are making them out of a durable plastic now for cheap... See the attached picture for an example of what I'm looking for! Thanks a bunch everyone! I'm so glad this website exsits, I can't tell ya'll how often I come here for guidance! Erin

I Joyfully picked up this little Greenerd #1 Arbor Press at a garage sale for 10 bucks with a home made tool on the ram and a flat plate on the platform. When I cleaned it up a little and took closer note of the ram tool it appeared to be made for roll setting a tube. I then toot it off and set it in a snap 20 and it appeared to look like it would work to set it. Using bottom snap anvils that I had I set a snap 20 set and it worked perfectly. -- Tex

I have the Tandy Hand Press, but there are times I need to set rivets in places that cannot be reached with this press. I also tend to use a thicker, stiffer leather, so I cannot bend it to make it fit underneath. Obviously, I can set them by hand, but is there something that exists that is "long-armed" or something? Sometimes there are a lot of rivets and I'd much prefer to use a press or something... Thanks in advance! M

Hi all, been looking around here for a couple of weeks and learning a ton, thanks for all the contributors! My first project is making key fobs. I have manually cut them up to this point and just came across a local company that makes steel ruled dies (AC Steel Rule). I have designed a 4"x 4.5" die that will cut 3 fobs at one time (each is 4"x1.5" with a 1/4" hole, all 3 share a long edge). Question is to but an arbor press or a shop press... I feel that the arbor press will be easier to operate (and faster be I am the unassisted power source) than the shop press but my concern is that a 1 ton harbor freight arbor press may not offer enough physics to cut the 6-8oz veg tanned leather. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Hello, I just posted a 20 ton hydraulic clicker press on eBay and thought someone here might be interested. It was working well in our factory 15 years ago when we crated it up and moved to a new location. It has been sitting in the crate ever since. My boss wants it gone. I believe it is about 50 years old. See eBay for additional information. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=151029913627 Contact me either here or on eBay for additional information.

Video Of Texas Custom Dies Air Run Clicker Press?
MrLentz posted a topic in Leatherwork Conversation
Hello, I am about to purchase the Texas Custom Dies Air Run clicker press, but I was wondering if anyone here can post a short video of it working? Maybe upload a quick iphone video of you using it for a few seconds. I don't fully understand how fast it works or what is happening. I do have the photos for it already, but video would be great! Or if you have a manula run one, that video would be great too! Thanks for the help! -
Greetings! This is my first post/question, been perusing for some time and have learned a lot from these forums. Here comes the question... Does anybody think this particular machine would work as a clicker press? The issue I could see arising is that the die I would be cutting (hopefully) is roughly 7"x 9", the cutting surface is sufficient size for this. I'm just wondering if I would get consistent & even pressure for a uniform cut. The leather would be about 5 oz. Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks!!! http://www.tecre.com/catalog.php?p=159

What are the pros and cons of these grommet-setting tools? C.S. Osborne plain washer grommet setter (the kind with the cone-shaped anvil) - each size grommet requires one of these plus a hole cutter Stimpson 405 grommet press - each size grommet requires a die set, but no cutter (if used with Stimpson self-cutting grommets I will probably use two grommet sizes: 0 and 1, and will not be setting grommets every day. This is for waxed canvas items to be sold in an Etsy shop. My husband may also use the tool for leather items.

I am looking to make some Belts and other small leather items. I will be doing some simple stitching, punching holes, setting rivets and snaps, and cutting leather. What tools should i buy to get started? Are there any good kits out there? Any info would be appreciated.
