Hello, i have a question about engraving chrome tanned leather. I live in Poland EU and our regulation about chrome tanned leather are quite restricted and they cannot have more than 3mg/kg chrome in leather. But anyway i am afraid about toxicity of this materials, so i wanna ask you, how do handle with this, what about ventilation and another security measures for that purpose. I heard about filters, that reduce all kind of toxicity about 99,9% and not only from leather, but also acrylic, PVC and that kind of stuff. I don't engrave much, maybe 9 hours a week. Regards PS. I am talking about laser engraving

Unsure if I’m in the minority, part of my leatherwork is laser engraving however I’m consistently seeking value for money (or free) web sources to improve images etc. ideally none that are linked to spam etc would help.

It has been 2 months now since i started the leather addiction hobby. i have not had any classes, only Leatherworker.net, youtube, Tandy Videos and the guys at the Fort Wayne Tandy store; all are very helpful, but i would still like critique from those of you that are doing it "right". You can only learn so much from a video. what can i improve on? What would you do different? pictures of most of the things i have done so far are on the "more leatherwork" gallery: http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?app=gallery&album=2813&sort_key=views&sort_order=desc i am good at taking criticism, so be honest... it is the only way can learn the right way. THANK YOU!!!!

Hello all! I am completely new to working with leather. I am getting my supplies in order for my first project: a passport holder for a friend of mine. I have it pretty planned out in my head and it seems like it will be pretty simple to do. I did want to ask you all a question about engraving on the inside. The inside lining and pockets are going to be with this leather, which is going to be lightweight. I'm not sure stamping letters will show up. I had the leather shipped to me, so I'll be able to test out a scrap soon, but in the mean time, I was wondering if I should figure out how to add color to letter stamps (silver on black, I'm thinking). Has anyone done that? Do you just get contrasting paint or marker and fill in the letters once you stamp them? This picture gives an idea of what I would like it to look like. Any advice you might have is greatly appreciated. Thanks very much for your help! I'm excited to post my first project! EDIT: I believe I found my answer, in case any other beginners are looking at how to do this. It's called hot foil stamping. There's another thread with info about it here. I still might try stamping and painting the letters on a scrap and see how it goes.

I had a person call me today and they are in need of someone to engrave a leather portfolio they are giving as a gift. They want a gold or silver leaf inprint of their anniversary date. As usual they need it today.. actually by Friday. Anyone know of a person or company that can do something along those lines. If you do.. please PM me. Thanks Ed
