Hi, How economically feasable would you say is to buy an leather sewing machine like an Juki TSC 441 or it's clones like the Cobra class 4/CB 4500? I have heard stories from "just with 1 saddle repair you can pay off a leather sewing machine" to "it's more like a Hobby since Prices are to low for leather goods to justify an sewing machine". In my case it's indeed more an Hobby since I make only one-to-one personal sales despite I am on etsy.com. I have seen here an constructioners harness (for hammer, nails, screwdrivers, etc) made in Mexico (Truper brand) seemingly real leather for about 6 US$. Well constructed, lots of rivets and sewn with about #69 thread. Clear is, for that Price I would never make the harness. I would rather have an Price of 49 US$. Whats the real leather market about? Considered big retailers, Made in China and local leather shops as competition.

Would like to see some feedback on this. I've used Product/Cost-based pricing for years and I feel I have lost a valuable section of the market and also have not received fair value on most of my products. I've started looking into the VBP method because I feel I can open up my market reach and increase revenue at the same time. Most, if not all, of my business is custom work. Therefore, I'm in contact with the customer and learning quite a bit about them, their likes and dislikes and many other items that I can use to place a value on the product they are buying. When I say "value on the product" I mean the value to the customer, not me. How valuable is my product to the customer? As long as I set a minimum in my head, I can increase proportionally according to these values. Of course, prices set on a website will no longer be viable. This is sticky and I admit that it has turned me away when I'm looking at something and there are no prices listed. But with the quality of our work on display, the potential customer should be able to decide whether to proceed or "go to Walmart."

Hi all! Like many here before me, long time lurker coming out the shadows. Great community/ forum here! Lots of great info and advice! Now to the matter at hand: I recently bought small quantities of Ritza 25 (wich I haven't recieved yet) at what I think is a fair price (compared to other offerings out there). Small quantities seem to suit my needs better for now since I'm just starting out but in the long run, having to pay extra for smaller bits AND pay for shipping for every single transaction might end up costing me an arm and leg. So, this got me thinking of full spools. Harder to find but got a hold of someone selling some at what I once again think is a fair price. Thing is, I have absolutely no idea what those go for - I can't seem to find the 'retail price' anywhere -, so my idea of what's fair and what's not might be pretty far from reality. Any of you ritza 25 users care to give me a idea of what it could be worth?

I am going to be starting off on leatherworking with dog collars as a basic start, but I've no clue where to get the tools and leather, how much it will be, and even what kind of leather would be best for various types of collars... Someday, I am aiming for being able to make all sorts of leatherworks, even jackets, vests, etc. I could go into a lot more detail of what I'm wanting to do but I have to get my butt to bed because I have work in 8 hours. All I need is some great suppliers of both the tools I will need to start and the best leather for beginner collars, as well as tips, advice, and even walkthroughs from the experienced leatherworkers around.

I just finished a custom a holster for someone. It's for a Colt 1911. How do you guys price holsters? Where I am in western CO there is no one else doing Sheridan style holsters. I look on eBay and ETSY and yes they have holsters and yes technically they have flowers on them it's just not the sheridan style. By sheridan style I am referring to raised floral pedals and vine work seen typically in the west like on saddles like Don King use to make. I am not seeing anyone doing that stuff online and I am trying to figure out how to set up my pricing since each sheridan holster takes me a couple days to make. I have no idea why my iPad won't autorotate the first image.
