Loved that HS The 82 year old Big Boy 4014 did one better a week or so ago, while hauling a dozen or so cars of its own. A very long, very heavy freight train stalled after stopping on an uphill grade. It was holding up 4014, so they pulled it up behind and gave a push to get the freight train started! Quote

HS When i was a young boy my folks had a good friend ( Morris Lundbeck) here that was a retired engineer, he ran a big boy on the route from from Cheyenne to Rawlins its now in the city park In Cheyenne where 4014 was rebuilt. He was an awesome man and one of my inspirations. He worked his way to the US from Denmark as a young man on a sailing ship, then worked his way to Wyoming where he worked in a blacksmith shop here in town until getting his education and a job on the U.P. some time in the 70's My dad was given his uncles sheep wagon when he died as soon as Morris saw it he laughed and told him exactly when and where he had built it. I still have the wagon and the memories. His house also had many photos of the old trains he ran and a few local train wrecks to boot. I always wondered if i took my truck down to a freight yard and left it would someone paint the darned thing lol. CFM Frodo Posted July 14, 2023 CFM Report Posted July 14, 2023 (edited) English: With speeds topping out around 85 MPH, Locomotive #2542 - a Mountain type locomotive - served as a work horse for Illinois Central Railroad in both passenger and freight service during the middle years of the 20th century. #2542 is one of only two surviving 2500 class Paducah Rebuilds (named for the square "Paducah" steam dome atop the boiler) with a sister locomotive, #2500, residing in Centralia, Illinois. These were the largest steam engines in the ICRR fleet. The wheel arrangement for this locomotive was reconfigured in 1942 from a 2-10-2 to a 4-8-2 arrangement; beginning her life as locomotive #2906 in Lima, Ohio Locomotive Works in 1921. Owned by the City of McComb City, Locomotive #2542 was acquired in 1962 largely through the efforts of the late Oliver Emmerich (then editor of the McComb Enterprise Journal), the McComb Junior Auxiliary and other local civic groups. Her home was in Edgewood Park until relocated to this spot on June 21, 2000. Members Handstitched Posted July 14, 2023 Members Report Posted July 14, 2023 @chuck123wapati Happy Birthday Chuck, , your thread turns 10...pages Here ya go friend, these are the locos I was talking about . About as close as I could get. They're just sitting there, pretty much abandoned . I managed to count 10 loco's . The yellow one in the foreground ' 2301' is a newcomer, it has only been there for a few months. They were in good working condition, almost new some of them , but I did find out that one or two may have been vandalised inside. Now that really p**ses me off !! Theres no need for that. The building in the background is our wheat bin for the local farmers to offload their grain, but even that has now been closed by the grain handling company. So now the farmers have to travel much further to offload their grain at another wheat bin in another town, at extra expense , go figure. So now as a result the roads to and from , are now in constant need of repair . Can't fix stoopid !! Its a shame they are mothballing those for such a global sham. Ironically over here they are bringing back passenger trains to our U.P. line. They rerouted them in the 60's and a good portion of our town dried up. they were a great source of income for the shops downtown. Now they are bringing them back to get us ready for public transit IMO. We wont be able to afford personal vehicles in the future its just not good commie/socialist/new world order business to have rich peasants. We will live in 15 minute towns and walk or ride public transport. But you know that's all a conspiracy theory right. Its good to see that they're bringing passenger trains back, not often we hear about something returning, wish we had that here, it would benefit so many towns, more jobs and $$$ . Steam trains, now that would be awesome For us, it would be good to have our ' T3' lines' back in service, (branch lines) for grain transporting to and from small regional towns and wheat bins , but our stoopid state gubment in all its "wisdom" decided not to put in any funding for their upkeep, and then a bad accident happened around 10 years ago ( no-one killed thankfully) , but they shut down all the T3 lines as a result to the detriment of smaller towns, ...and local jobs, causing an increase in semi's on the roads risking so many lives, the roads around here are not good. The T3's remain abandoned to this day . But local community ' action groups' are trying to get them funded and opened again.
