I very rarely eat hot dogs. There's a trailer at the local Canadian Tire that sells hot dogs, sausages and burgers, plus fries and a few other things during the nice weather. I always go for the sausages, which are really good. They come with free fried onions. The onions go on the bun FIRST. 

They have dozens of different toppings you can put on yourself - everything from sauerkraut to olives! If my favourite BBQ type sauce isn't available, I've been known to put some ketchup on the brat.

Standard dressing for a regular dog in my part of the world, is ketchup, mustard and green relish. We were pretty poor when I was growing up, so we often wrapped our hotdogs in a slice of white bread instead of buying buns.

I sometimes play "hide the sausage" with my two Westies! I sometimes get some strange looks when I say that to people.

I cut up sausages into pieces and, once the dogs are out in the garden, I secrete the pieces around the house and amid great excitement they scurry around looking for them. It gives me great pleasure to watch them and I have to be vigilant to ensure the sharper of the two doesn't get them all.

The first thing I learned to cook besides a marshmallow, lol. Cooking the lowly hot dog on a willow stick was the greatest achievement in my child's mind at the time. Gently simmering, sizzling, and turning brown over a smoky fire, man, i couldnt wait to get a bite of that meaty goodness wrapped in a bun and smothered with ketchup, mustard, and that sweet pickle relish!!, Sitting by the campfire in the brisk mountain air, smell of the pines and the quiet little stream we camped at every 4th of July.

Hot dogs have a special place in everyone's memory lol.

When I was a kid, we had a family celebration for my first communion. Mom served rappie pie to everyone, which is a traditional Acadian dish requiring a huge prep and beloved by all the attending family. 

I was upset, and remember insisting that it was MY first communion, and we should be able to have hot dogs instead!
