It is a darning machine - not even a sewing machine. If it is in the state as it once left the factory it does not even have a feed dog (for feeding the material) or a stitch length adjuster so It will not produce a seam with constant stitch length at all but we have not seen your particular machine yet. Maybe someone reworked it in the past.

Thanks for the feedback. Been manually using it with stitch wheel to do knife standards and small stuff. Not my primary machine, just one I started with several years ago. Thinking of it as able to be switched, I would do it. But, no big deal! Thanks for the help!!

Was told it was used up here for making grain bags where stitching wasn't a big issue!

I think a 45k 76 has some interesting features.  The height of the foot is adjustable, which means it can be used for various thickness by a simple adjustment at the top of the machine.  With the foot released you are free to move material, than make the stitch.  I have a high gear reduction settup which can make a stitch at a time. A better choice would be a sevo with needle postion.  With that you can position needle just right.

Since it has no feed dog and the foot is flat it does not mark the leather.  Much faster than hand stitching.  You can also lock beginning and end stitches much like embroidery machines which lock stitches before and after jumps. I use it for shoe soles and knife sheaths. There also cheap. Picture shows $50 machine before rehab.

I switched one yrs ago & it took a good week or so + alot of the parts didn't fit right & had to be modified so I didn't feel it was worth it considering the cost of the chinese copy model GA-5 ,we also found out not all of the castings even had all the holes drilled for the shafts.

Thanks ljk! Love these old Singers too!! True quality, when it was the standard instead of throw away!!! For a price, they are definitely worth fixing up!!
