Using that type cutter looks like a great idea. You probably already tried this, but perhaps go to your local carpet store(s) and see if they have a similar tool (probably better, and more expensive) that also has replacement blades available.

I am curious, is the prohibiton on mailing blades, for the UK, just Northern Ireland, or local to where you live? I have looked at websites in the UK that sell knives ie https://www.georgebarnsleyandsons.co.uk/leather-working-knives?page=3

The ban is specific to Northern Ireland. Illegal to 'import' any knife or blade via post/mail/courier, and only allowed on personal 'imports' with a very good reason for doing so. Very often if I try to buy any blade from GB and have it sent the good companies will flag up 'cannot deliver to your address/location'

I buy some blades in GB and arrange collection for when I'm over in GB. I once picked up some sports fencing 'blades' and the forms and questions was ridyicullis for what are just thin straight steel bars with no edges and no points, but the packing said 'blade' on it

Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..

Presumably a result of "the Troubles" I think it was called? Do you know anyone in the rest of Ireland that could get them for you and then just pick them up?:dunno:

I think I might buy one and try it. They are cheap enough. One problem I foresee is replacement blades; I can't seem to find any like the one fitted

Although it looks nasty the way the point of the blade is right up to the grip hole the blade actually sits in a recess

Where  are you going to buy from ?  Make a deal with  that business  for a supply and like any other blade they could be sharpened several times before replacing . If you buy the tool  online it most likely will come with a blade and the you are in hot water ,

good luck
