While I have used a swivel knife for this small pattern it is much quicker and a it easier to use a stitching awl .  It cuts nicely without worry of going too deep . Bigger patterns still get the swivel knife ,

Good job on those. I wouldn't have thought to use the stitch awl for the cross hatching. I've done it with a swivel knife in the past. Maybe I'll try an awl next time.

Nice work! I have built several of these, recently, 4 smaller ones to fit across the drawer in my carving desk.

@MarshalWill Thank you , it works well for small  patterns .

@Hags Thanks !  Good idea . using small ones for tools/parts ?

@Fraulein  I just use a straightedge the width I need ( 3/8 inch in this case ) to make the pattern size I want.  There is no lay out other than the first 2 lines at 60 degrees ( that is just what I use ) , then I just move straightedge over for each cut. I could NOT get close to straight freehand with the awl
