Lastest bag

You may remember my prototype mini-tote here.

A family friend liked it a lot and asked for a large version so I made it for him to give to someone.

I changed the stitching so I could do it on a machine instead of handsewing. Instead of Chicago screws on the flap I stitched it on and used rivets for accents. The front pocket and the bags interior are lined. The inside of the bag has a good sized pocket. And since it's a large bag I added feet on the bottom.

I used 4/5oz veg tan for the exterior, 2oz veg tan lining, the trim is Fiebings Russet and the body is Fiebings yellow with a litte brown mixed in.

As always critiques are welcome.

Cool! Love the colours!

Again, I'm curious as to how the bottom is done. Can you please show a picture of JUST the bottom?

What did you line it with?

Thanks.

The lining is a soft 2oz veg tan dyed with Fiebings Tan.

When I sew the side seams the bag is inside out. Once I turn it outside out I glue and pinch the bottom seam then stitch it closed.

This is the only bottom picture I have as it went to it's owner.

This is a closeup of the prototype done the same way.

I hope the pics and explanation helped because it confused me when I wrote it:rofl:

Okay, thanks! I was really trying to puzzle out just how the bag was put together. So, from the looks of it, the body of the bag is made out of just one piece of leather, correct? The only seams are the vertical ones on the sides, then the horizontal ones on the bottom edges.

I originally thought there was a seam on the bottom where the left and right sides of the bag were joined together, and that's why I wanted a photo of the bottom! Now I see that's not the case.

Very simple construction! :yeah:

Now that's what I call a bag! Very nice, and very practical! Do I see a D-Ring on the inside? For keys?

I'd just be worried about the handles. The stitches holding them seem too few for the carrying capacity of the bag (i. e. the bag looks suitable for gold bullion, the handles not so). But as the new owner is unlikely to reenact Three Kings, it probably won't matter.

I believe the bottom is made using what is called a "box seam." There are many videos on YouTube showing a few ways to create that.
