Ok, I guess I have decided to extend the contest deadline until December 30. That gives everyone 2 more weekends (and one of them is after Christmas) to carve thier oak leaves. Hope that helps.

Clay,

I wouldn't sweat the deadline issue, I am sure that this is the first of many "contests".

I think it's a fantastic idea! Competition drives people to better themselves and try things they normally wouldn't have. In the future you could have different subjects like another leaf, a certain animal or flower... For some contests you might like a people's choice vote or having a member donate a prize. Anyway you do it I am sure it will get people off the couch and into the shop (or kitchen). I like the idea of Shorter deadlines (less then a month) because it forces me to make time and "get er done" =) I can't wait to see the entries... Thanks again Clay!

Clay,

This deadline issue is not so important but, by the same token, some will find reason to miss the next one and some will miss every deadline. Why not ask how many will "commit" to an entry if you delay 15 or 30 days? For future ones, I like Scouter's idea of shorter deadlines (when the subject is reletively simple). Then, you either jump in and patrticipate, or not.

I tooled mine on odd shaped scraps of leather. And after reading some of the discussion here and other posts, I think I should have at least faded out to some type edge or frame or toward some end product. I think this is great experience especially for those of us that have never submitted work into any guild or show.

Competition grows every participant's skill and knowledge (even the big kids). And, this was a good way to start the ball rolling reguardless of the particular deadline or prizes. I looked forward to seeing the various designs and tooling as well as how mine compared (on the same subject).

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have really been wanting to enter, but have been so swamped with my Christmas orders, I have not been able to think about this. So thank you again Clay!

Well sent one, but do not know if it made it through. With the longer time line will try to get another one done.

Oscar- the pics came through. WOW. If we had an award for "most creative entry", I'd be nominating you!
