Hi, my name is Ingrid Guerci. I’ve been making knife handles for knife kits and I want to learn how to make sheaths for my knives.  During my research I came across this forum and found it to have a lot of useful information so I’m joining to learn more about leather crafting.  I’m already thinking about making other things such as pouches.  I wonder what kind of a newbie project would be a good tutorial.

Good way to go is find something you need to do . . . and do it . . . post pictures . . . ask for comments.

Generally speaking most folks here are gentle . . . but honest in their admiration and / or criticism . . . 

The old saying goes something like . . . "most of our good decisions come from experience . . . and experience comes from bad decisions"

My first holster I made . . . no one on here has or will see . . . it was that ugly . . . but looking at others . . . I was able to see what I did wrong.

It's at the bottom of my holster box . . . rarely eve sees daylight.

Good to have you join. As far as good newbie projects, given that you’re interested in making knife sheaths, I’d start with a fold-over knife sheath. I started with the same interest, so I started with a fold-over sheath. The pattern is easy to draw and cut and the construction is simple. Doesn’t require many tools or complex pattern-making. For me personally, that was good because I’m not good spatially or with my hands. You’ll find yourself progressing really quickly after making something like that.

Looking for the same ole same ole or different ?   You said maybe make other things like pouches,  let’s combine those 2.
