Have any of you used a box style speed reducer. I want to put one on my Pfaff 145 h4 so I can oil the bottom parts of the machine.

I added a box style reducer to a cylinder arm machine. It has 4:1 reduction. I bought it from Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines. It required two new type 3L v-belts.

I recommend locating it in a manner that lets you tilt the machine back to oil it. It can be tricky getting the right position while still clearing the oil pan and wiring. Also, adjusting the belt tension is a bit tricky. Once done, it is usually good for the life of the two belts.

looking to buy it

can anyone prove - does this reducer (box one) have a bearing on the axle?

Sorry.  "Proving it" is beyond the scope of my participation here.  I can see from the picture that the one at TISM appears to have a bearing.  I'll include a link to Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines and verify that Bob Kovar has not lied to me.  Bad news is that he is in the U.S.  Call him.  JM2C, Jim

I copped a boo at one of my speed reducers that bolts to the table in a box above the motor. It looks like it has a bronze case bearing, but, I'm not sure about that. I bought it about 10 years ago and it may be outdated. I have different reducers on machines in my shop. I will look at them later today and try to remember to report back here. Nonetheless, Bob Kovar, at Toledo Industrial Sewing Machines, sells the most current accessories. So, the newer speed reducers might have roller bearings in all models. Ask him.

Just recently, I got a box-style reducer from Bob Kovar, bearings, yes, it has them.

Additionally, it's built like a tank and is worth every penny, and Toledo Industrial Sewing is a great company to deal with.
