Hello,

Does anyone know how to straighten/remove the curl from polyester thread?

Thanks in advance!

Are you hand sewing with it? Or machine sewing with it?

If hand sewing with it. Just pull your length of thread thru a block of beeswax. Will straighten it right out.

If you are machine sewing and it gets closer to the core, some threads can really have tight memory. Lay the spool on its side and let it unroll like a level wind fishing reel. My old pal used to sew off all his thread spools that way on closed eye needle machines.

Hello all! Thank you for the replies - I am indeed handsewing....

I did try pulling the poly thru beeswax but it still wants to curl a lot....must have a strong "memory" from being wound around the Spool for a while...

When I hand sew with poly, I will pull my thread thru the beeswax block 4-5times. As I am pulling it thru the block it actually starts to cut a groove in the beeswax block.

I am usually using poly 346 thread.

After waxing the thread, pull it through some heavy brown paper to evenly distribute the wax.

Quick update!

Diesel, I did have success pulling the thread thru beeswax a few times....but had to do one more thing to get the curls out....

I got a folded piece of paper towel and pulled the thread thru that a few times against my fingernail, which was padded by the paper towel and the thread straightened out!!

Thanks again everyone!

Did I post this question in the wrong section (How Do I Do That?), or was this moved just to keep topics organized?

Just wondering if I did something wrong?

Thanks :))

Just trying to organize topics so they are easier to find in the future.  Some are obvious, but others are more difficult to classify.
