Members LCNCJohn Posted March 24 Members Report Posted March 24 Hey everyone, I’m John! I’ve been in IT for the past 17 years and run Lowcountry Network Consulting in Charleston, SC. Over the years, I’ve helped everyone from my 75 year old neighbor to the CEO of a publicly traded company navigate their tech challenges. I’m here because my cousin Johanna thought I would enjoy seeing how things are done in the leatherworking world, and I’m excited to check it out. If any of you ever run into tech issues, whether it’s computer problems, website development, or anything in between, feel free to reach out. Happy to help! Quote
Members badhatter1005 Posted March 24 Members Report Posted March 24 Welcome my friend. Hopefully you find a niche here and start doing some leather work. We will definitely keep you in mind for the IT work as well. Quote
Moderator Johanna Posted March 24 Moderator Report Posted March 24 Welcome, John! We are a people of sharp knives and big hammers, and most of us would rather be in the shop than updating a website or trying to figure out where the email disappeared to. If anyone needs tech assistance, call John. Some of you REALLY need to get your websites looking like it's 2025. John can fix you up without breaking the bank. I'm going to start him off with a simple leather project. Then the leather bug will bite him and he will be collecting hides and tools like the rest of us. It's inevitable. Muhahahahah! ~J Quote
Members LCNCJohn Posted April 8 Author Members Report Posted April 8 Good Morning! Didn't mean to abandon this post but life got busy... What would y'all recommend as a starter project in leather? Quote
AlZilla Posted April 8 Report Posted April 8 Wallets, belts, key chains and coasters all seem like popular rookie projects. I bought one of those "starter kits" that had several small projects like that. The nice thing there was it had all the leather and tools I need. It saved looking for and cutting out a pattern right away. I didn't have to worry about which thread, needle, etc. I got straight into the dyeing, sewing, stamping, burnishing part. Quote
Members frostyshadow Posted April 16 Members Report Posted April 16 Welcome, John! It's great to have someone with your IT expertise here. I'm looking forward to seeing your take! Quote
Members JDFred Posted April 16 Members Report Posted April 16 Don Gonzales has a you tube video and a free download to go with it for a folding money clip it needs no hardware and is simple. It could be modified to have a snap if you wanted. You can stamp a geometric pattern in it or some initials or find an embossed crome tan you like. I was thing it would be a good project for our 4-H club. Good luck. Quote
Members Mulesaw Posted April 16 Members Report Posted April 16 Welcome, I think that a belt is a great starter project, since it is something that most people can use on an everyday basis. Brgds Jonas Quote
