yeah these aren't city street gun-fighting rigs; they are for hard outdoor use, they get wet, dirty, and abused, so they need a finish that can be maintained. That old flap holster is 50 years old or so, and the flap needs to flex, so it needed a good dose of NFO.

Yup, they do. You can clean and reoil an oil finished holster. But once sealed there is no more of that lol. Different styles for different uses. I think what you did is great and will maintain the leather well

As far as the left and right-hand thing, what I say is shut up and shoot. Maintaining a leather holster is important. This is A re -stitched Japanese Nambu World War II holster

that needed new stitching on the flap. I stitched it using embalmer's thread, and it matched perfectly. maintaining leather.

Nice Job on those holsters, Chuck. I don't think I would do them any differently.

I do pretty much the same thing.  My go-to hunting sidearm is a Ruger blackhawk .45 Colt that I've had well over 40 years.  Part of taking care of hunting gear after season is treating that holster.

You know, some of them also had reins to hold on to when they didn't have their sabre, kinda hard with your left hand too.

Hold the reins in your teeth, it worked for Rooster Cogburn.:)
