Ambassador pete Posted February 9, 2009 Ambassador Report Posted February 9, 2009 really nice work. that adult comment reminded me of a joke I heard ears back. An old buckaroo walks up to the desk at a fine hotel and says that he and his new bride want a suite. The clerk asks "bridal?" He says "Naw. I'll just hang onto her ears till she gets used to it" Quote
Members wildrose Posted February 9, 2009 Members Report Posted February 9, 2009 My thought on the subject line was: only here can I read about a gift such as that...my second thought was: lucky lady!!! Quote
Members jbird Posted February 9, 2009 Members Report Posted February 9, 2009 I agree with Holly great work and a lucky lady Josh Quote
Members TroyS Posted February 10, 2009 Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 I just have one thing to say ... Absolutely Stunning! I want to redo my motorcycle seat like that... really give it that "Iron HORSE" look... Quote
rcsaddles Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Beautiful work. Many hours of practice and patience went into that saddle. When I grow up and mature, I want to be able to do work like that. Joe Quote
Members Go2Tex Posted February 10, 2009 Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 Excellent work. What did you use for your cantle binding? It matches your seat inlay, so I assume it's not just dyed. Quote
Members StolpSaddles Posted February 10, 2009 Author Members Report Posted February 10, 2009 Excellent work. What did you use for your cantle binding? It matches your seat inlay, so I assume it's not just dyed. Hi Brent Boy you have a good eye, yes the cantle binding is not dyed leather. I use chap leather for the seat and 8 oz latigo leather for all the other black in the stirrup tread, horn wrap cantle binding as well as the trim on the Pommel. The reason I use the latigo leather is that it resists the dents and damage that you always get in these high wear areas, this also means that it will not take your tooling. I took this up as a hobby because I could not get a saddle to fit my horse, so I built myself a saddle. I enjoyed it so much I am starting another one. It will be #14. For me this is a hobby that I hope to build on for a retirement job ( retirement is not sitting back doing nothing, it is just a change ) PS Like you work as well Brent You can see my hobby website at http://www.stolpsaddles.com/ Quote
Contributing Member TwinOaks Posted February 11, 2009 Contributing Member Report Posted February 11, 2009 When I read the topic I wondered if your wife had seen it......and whether you could still walk. Beautiful work. I'll eventually be moving into tack making, and this is just inspiring. Quote
