Bobbin Thread Doesn't Follow

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I recently purchased a adler leather sewing machine. I was very happy with it, and everything was going fine.

I have now for the first time rethreaded the bobbin, and now the needle is picking up the bobbin thread, but after that, nothing happens. The needle is putting the upper thread where it should be, but the bobbin thread doesn't follow. So it doesn't fasten the stiches, i can just pull the upper thread back out. Anyone has an idea how to fix this? I'm not the greatest technician, but I'm quite sure I didn't change anything.

Thank you,

Nele.

What else did you do?Did you unthread the needle to wind a bobbin or did you change the needle?

I'm not sure about the Adler, but this happens on a Pfaff machine as well. It's an easy and simple fix. If you can hold the hook in place while turning the hand wheel, you should feel it "fall" back in to place.

Thank you for your help, but unfortunately, the problems is not solved yet. Everything seems to bee going fine, until i put fabrik on the machine. The upper thread is making loops, but the underthread refuses to go through them.

The only thing that I have changed is the new thread on the bobbin, is a 40 instead of a 20. I didn't change anything else.

Any ideas?

Thank you,

Nele.

Hi Nele,

Either you tripped the safety clutch (push the button and crank it through to reset) or you have re-threaded it wrong. Thread groove in needle on the left, needle scarf on right then the top thread is left to right, if your machine is the other way around, then the thread is the other way around.

Nele,

Re-thread the machine again, especially if you unthreaded it to wind a new bobbin with the thread that you had been using in the needle. And make sure that the presser foot is up when you thread it if it's a machine with an automatic upper tension release. It sounds like the hook is catching the upper thread from the needle, if it brings the lower thread up at the beginning, but it can sometimes do that with the needle facing the wrong way. If you didn't do anything with the needle since it sewed correctly, the needle orientation probably isn't the problem.

Loops underneath usually indicate lack of upper tension, or the upper thread not in the tension discs good, but the lockstitch usually still gets made. Your fabric will just have a series of loops underneath, and if you make very many stitches, it'll usually ball up and stop your machine. If you can simply pull the upper thread back out like a chainstitch in the top of a feed sack, something else is going on.

What model of Adler?

Hi Nele,

Would you please tell us what the problem and the fix were, also the make and model of the machine. This will help others.
