What's out your windows?

Recommended Posts

Looking out my window last week I was enjoying the scenery, so I thought I would share it. The temperature had dropped overnight and given us some beautiful hoar frost on the trees. The pictures don't do it justice (they never do), but it gives you a taste.

The first one is looking west out our kitchen window. Our shop is on the left. Bald eagles have been known to land on the top of that big spruce tree you can just barely see sticking up on the far side of the bush.

This one is looking south over the yard, the well traveled path to the shop, the garden (with our moveable greenhouse behind the tree) and the fence to the horse pasture. (Note - this was taken about noon. The sun is noticeably higher in the sky now than it was three weeks ago.)

And I cheated on this one and took it out the door of the shop looking east. Those are our raspberry canes in the foreground, with the garden behind it. The fences, the chute and the corral system farther off to the left have all been built with our own hands. Gives you a good feeling. And the horses just top it off.

Then I got thinking that there are people here from all over the world and I wondered, "What do you all see when you look out your windows?"

You know what!

I ain't gonna post no picture here...because.

Beautiful winterscenery like that is what we should have in theese parts of Sweden right now, but we don't and that's just how it goes theese days. Today the sun is actually up on a bright sky and the grass looks more green than brown, a little warmer and we'll need to bring out the lawnmovers.

Soo I took my sorry ass from the 'puter chair for a moment and plowed through the recycling corner of our home. It's been neglected since x-mas so it was a BIG pile to sort out. Managed to pack it up so I didn't have to go twice to the recycling bing but don't know if that's a good thing (I'm really a beer guzzler and should get some exercize once in a while;-) so now that's done and hopefully theese efforts will provide a more stabile weathersituation somewhere in the future. I love the winter and it's killing me to experience those green winters. Snow is magic!

About the picture, my camera needs recharging so todays statement is to neglect that and be a little greener, the puter is on and that's enough already.

Best regards and sorry for hijacking the thread a little bit but your beatiful pictures (and hearing about that eagle) just got me in one of those worrying moods and for shure some bit of envy aswell. Just wish I could be there in the snow and go icefishing and all those wonderful winter activities.

Tom (feeling blue)

Denise,

Beautiful pictures from a northerner at heart (Pittsburgh) living in Florida. Are you in US or Canada or (?)?

Snow is so beautiful (unless you must drive in it,,,,,,in a city). Brings back fond memories.

I see a pool out back and a nice neighborhood out front. We live in a small development just outside of town. It's about 15-20 years old. We have terrific neighbors all around. I can only hope we do so well when we move to Virginia next month...though I do miss the horse farm I grew up on!

Sounds like fun, I'll play this game!

This is what I see out the kitchen window (my "front" yard - the house is oddly shaped and there is no true front or back, just different sides):

This is winter, but it was last winter. This is usually what it looks like though.

This is what I see out the window as I work all day long, the "back" yard, but this was taken in the fall:

The "back" yard goes for quite a ways - not all the way to those hills, but pretty far.

We live in a valley that runs for miles. Not alot of snow fall down here in the valley. However, you don't have to go far to find lots of deep snow. There's some nice places to ride in these parts. Good hunting and fishing too. There's some hugh cattle ranches around here.

I'm not sure how to upload these pictures I taken. These pics are taken today from our house. Hope this works.

We live here in the Kamloops area, just outside of town on 2 acres. Kamloops BC, is about 3 1/2 hours north east from Seattle WA. The houses you see in these pictures are the neighbors.

Hi all,

The scenery here in southwestern Ohio is much less majestic, so I don't have any grand vistas to show everyone; but last fall, after a significant dought all summer the fall maples were quite nice. Here is our backyard.

Snow is beautiful, but the pool in the backyard sounds awful good right about now, with the heat to go with it, that is. Beautiful gardens and trees in these pictures. I've heard of the great colors out east. Ours are pretty too, but mainly yellow and orange, not that gorgeous red.

Regis, we are in Northern Alberta, about 10 hours north of the border, 7 hours north of Calgary and 4 hours northwest of Edmonton. (And there is still quite a few hours driving north of us till you hit the North West Territories border.)

HorsehairBraider - is that an alpaca I see in your backyard?

Yes Regis, it's some of the most beautiful country you could see up where Denise is.

I'd show you's a picture out of my window, but I still haven't gotten it fixed from when someone threw the rock through it this past summer. But it would be a snow covered front lawn looking out across the street to a school yard.

Today it was almost 40 degrees and raining, which isn't typical of an Ohio winter at all in Jauary. Here's pics from last winter of my backyard and barn.

Looks a lot different in the summertime, huh?

P1010036.JPG

This is looking through the fence at my house before we finished the deck. There are two apple trees, two plums and a black walnut tree inside the fence, on the other side, behind the barn, are blackberry bushes, rhubarb, 25 feet of raspberry canes, and my garden. There are flowerbeds all along the walks and house (I live on a corner) and I'm fortunate to have my mom's help keeping everything tidy. She loves to garden and work in the yard, and I love doing whatever she is doing, right next to her. We spend our time pulling weeds and trimming branches, sometimes talking, sometimes not, but it's one of the best parts about living here in Ohio. Her touches are all over my yard, and she babies the Rose of Sharon she planted, and I love putzing around with her.
