Reaper Report post Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) These are some pic's of a Machine I just swapped a Sub Compact CZ RAMI .40 cal for so I can use it for making Holsters. I am kind of wondering after reading some of the posts about the ability of this machine handling 8 to 10 oz thickness of leather. Will this do it or did I end up pulling a boner with the deal (gun value with action/trigger job value $500.00)? Also what is the heaviest thread I should run in it? Also, I was given somethings for Shoe/Boot repair and making, not sure I will ever use and wondering what value they might hold if any? Wizcrafts Report post Posted October 30, 2010 The Singer patcher is good for up to 12-14 oz leather, using no larger than #138 thread. The shoe lasts are good for holding shoes as you work on them. You just barely got your $500 worth.
Reaper Report post Posted October 30, 2010 (edited) Thank you Wizcrafts, good to know that it will do what is asked of it over all. I'll check and see if anyone can make use of the Lasts, if so they will be passed on, if not, into a Box and the Attic for when someone can do so. again, I feel better now know it will do the work. out of just wondering, it seems this machine was made in 1937 from what the serial shows, though there is not a Letter denoting the where it was built in the model number...?... any who.. CustomDoug Report post Posted October 31, 2010 (edited) It's great that it'll do what you need it to but if not you could have easily turned it to get your money back as you paid an average to good price. Anyway it's a great looking set up, good find. Look at it this way... keeping the gun would have cost you money in ammo and with the machine you can sell a couple of holsters and buy the gun again if you want. Reaper Report post Posted October 31, 2010 Very TRUE! more Holsters more money, more safes!!!! Hey, I'll have to pass that by my wife "Honey, this will save money because I will not be shooting that extra 2 boxes of .40 every week"
CowboyBob Report post Posted October 31, 2010 At least you got a machine that you can get parts for.We pretty much have anything you might need for it. Bob
suem Report post Posted November 22, 2010 At least you got a machine that you can get parts for.We pretty much have anything you might need for it. Bob Hi Bob I paid five hundred for mine with a modern power table, he got a deal with the original treadle table and I'm not finding those around by themselves anyplace. It's a rather popular machine apparently, the guy that sold it to me got a ton of other offers after we'd already agreed...fortunately for me he was honest and kept his end of the bargain. As for parts, I'm looking for one thing no one seems to have....the screw that holds the wood handle on the machine.... I'm sure I can engineer it from one at the depot but I'd much rather have the right one to complete my machine. It arrived without the front tensioner for the darning function completely missing. After much tearing of hair managed to find that in britain but no one carries the screw for the wood handle, can find the handles but not the screw that holds it on. I'm also interested in the other two(?) of three feet. I have a 29K72 which I believe came with a standard foot (which is on there) but I've seen pictures of at least one other foot that's described as a "feeder" ? what's it for? You may be the one to ask this....is the butterfly head supposed to spin smoothly all the way around? Mine catches in 2 places, oiling it a bit helps but could there be something bent inside or warn to cause that? Thanks.
amuckart Report post Posted November 22, 2010 (delurking after a few months off the board)Wiz is right about the other parts being for shoe repair but FWIW they're not lasts. Lasts are forms of the inside of a shoe that the shoe is originally made on and are plastic or wood. I'd call those repair anvils. They're used for putting inside a shoe you're resoling and either hammering down a glued-on sole or to just hold the shoe while you work on it. If I were local I'd buy 'em off you because it's a slightly more complete set than I have, but I wouldn't pay more than about US$40 for all of them. Kevin Report post Posted November 23, 2010 I bought the wooden handle and screw from Pilgrim Shoe and Sewing Machine Inc. 800-343-2202. (20 years ago) Kevin
CowboyBob Report post Posted November 23, 2010 Sue, Yes,I have both the handle & bolt that holds it on.But the different feet haven't been made for years so you'll have to find them used somewhere. Bob
