Members salvi Posted April 2, 2011 Members Report Posted April 2, 2011 (edited) This is a beautiful Laptop Case made by my teacher and leather master from Spain Don Luis Dominguez Rojas who has developed a lifelong career in Ubrique (Spain) The cover pic is 'La Rendición de Breda (The surrender of Breda)' painted in 1634 by the contemporary Barroque spanish master Diego Velázquez. Don Luis is not selling his art anymore but he has recently opened a blog talking about his ideas also exposing pics from a little part from his art in the Museum that is located at 'Hermanos Bohorquez Street' from the same village. He also doesn't understand english and although there is an email on the related website I must say that he is not very fond of internet. For those reasons the best way to contacting him is by sending me a PM and I'll be pleased to let him know from you and your questions about his leather works. Hope you like it his art. Members Leatherimages Posted April 2, 2011 Members Report Posted April 2, 2011 Is this one of those works Europeans do without a swivel knife? Quote
Members salvi Posted April 2, 2011 Author Members Report Posted April 2, 2011 The flower filigree and basketing has been made in the same way than US tooling that means the use of swivel knife and stamps. The main motif has been reverse painted on the leather flesh side then embossed, cutted and painted. Hope this may help you to understand just some parts of the process. Is this one of those works Europeans do without a swivel knife? Quote

Members corton Posted May 20, 2011 Members Report Posted May 20, 2011 Fantastic and inspiring. Can you please clarify for me--I'm a beginner--how the embossing is done? On some of his other works, is that a single piece of leather, or is the relief from a second piece that is somehow attached on? Thanks! Mike Quote

Members scottishshoemaker Posted May 28, 2011 Members Report Posted May 28, 2011 Really nice work, I have visited the Museum in Ubrique three times now and everytime I go I find something new. It is in an old convent at the top of the village and is free entry, it's an amazing place well worth a visit if you are in Spain. Quote
