I generally use a block of wood cut to the appropriate size. Mike

I ordered the Rings mag dummies and was disappointed to see they did not have a round cast into the dummy. I ordered a mag dummy from Duncans, and it did have a round in it. But, unless it's a really obscure and expensive magazine, I just buy the real thing and load a few rounds into it prior to forming.

Katsass - how do you get your initial dimensions for cutting your wood mag dummies? Can you post an example photo of one of your dummies? I'm curious how much detail you put into your blocks, as I've thought about doing this too.

particle, I just cut a piece of wood on the band saw, with one end slanted at the proper angle, then round over the edges by sanding. Nothing at all fancy. Sorry, don't have a pic to show of the dummy -- never thought of it. Here's a pic of one of my mag pouches. Mike.

+1 to the wooden dummies. Benefit is you can mold to the exposed round without the thing pressing back into the mag body when your trying to bone it out. Important for those mags that don't like to hold onto the rounds - Kahr 9mm mags are notorious for this.

I have used the real thing, with a few rounds loaded in, which reminds me of an incident a couple of months ago. A customer loaned me his .40 cal mag. When I got ready to mold it, I had no ammo. I don't own a .40 cal handgun. So I called a policeman friend and asked it I could borrow a bullet. He agreed, but looked at me kind of funny when I came to pick it up, until I explained why.
