Hi all, I have been perusing Craigs list for industrial sewing machines and ran across this one. The person is asking $200 for it. I know absolutely nothing about sewing machines and immediately thought of the masters here. I figured someone would know something :D The fella said his ex-wife used it to sew car upholstery and that it works. He did say it is not a "walking foot" machine. He didn't know much about it at all. Got it in the divorce.

There are folks on here that know a lot more about various machines than I. That said, I think you should contact any one of the sewing machine companies listed on this forum. Personally I wouldn't buy a machine from Craig's List under any circumstances but that is just me.

You really need a walking foot machine.

I don't know anything about this machine... but anything called Feitsew (pronounced Fight-Sew) I would be wary of. LOL Good deal though.

You do need a walking foot machine, according to the experts here.

Well, the pictures aren't great but it kind of looks like a 111. It should therefore have needle feed and walking foot. The Feitsew is a little worrisome. I wasn't aware anyone was cloning 111s, but it was a popular machine. The pics are blurry, but I think it says Sewing Machine Transmitter. Was the intention to plug a key into it and rip off a few lines of Morse after sewing something?

You can buy a fairly good 111w for around the same price, but a lot of them are a little loose. Still the 111 is capable of medium weight leather up to 3/8 or a little less. If you are a newbie to industrial sewing machines, I don't recommend shopping the used market, there are as many bad ones as good ones, and who will fix it for you if it needs it.

This machine looks like an old Singer to me. The Feitsew is the brand of the motor, not the machine itself. Maybe if the lady used it for upholstery, it is a walking foot after all. If he doesn't know much about it, he could be mistaken. Do you have any photos of the backside of the machine? Can't make a lot of detail out on my screen with the small pics. It is a shame that she can't demonstrate it for you. All that said, a used machine isn't the best way for a beginner to start, IMHO. To begin with, that clutch motor would be way too fast for leather sewing and would frustrate you till you get the hang of it.

The fact that it's a 111W does not make it a walking foot; it could be a compound feed/needle feed, like a Singer 111W150 for example. This would use a single drop presser foot.

The motor is a Feitsew II, and does not make the sewing machine a Feitsew, of course. This would be equivlent to calling a car a Goodyear because that is the brand tires that are on it. Has nothing to do with make or model of the vehicle of course.
