Sylvia Report post Posted February 18, 2012 I've been temped by a couple hair blades for swivel knives but have held off because I have NO CLUE how to sharpen or strop one. So.... How exactly does one sharpen a hair blade?
Tree Reaper Report post Posted February 19, 2012 You should be able touch them up with emery paper. Depending on how much room there is between the blades you could glue a piece of emery onto a strip of cardboard to stiffen it.
cdthayer Report post Posted February 19, 2012 So.... How exactly does one sharpen a hair blade? I would think that grinding material off of the toe of the blade, essentially moving the leather contact area of the toe towards the heel, to remove the worn area of the blade tip would be the only way I can think of to do it. Basically, remove the worn tip and establish a new cutting/contact area back along the blade that hasn’t been in contact with the leather before. I haven’t ever tried it, so I might be totally wrong. Jaymack Report post Posted February 19, 2012 I have not idea, but i once saw a post where they stacked a bunch of x-acto blades together within a swivel knife to make a hair blade.I think they used X-Acto x616, # 16 blades
Sylvia Report post Posted February 19, 2012 Interesting, seems I'm not the only one. It would probably help if I could actually see the blade in action so I could see the cutting edge. Perhaps one of the figure carvers will weigh in after a bit. Stacking the exacto blades is an interesting idea. Maybe this is another "Fine" use for duct tape. Thanks Gentlemen... I appreciate your thoughts.

From what I have the Tandy's one these (2) are more not like a "blades" (in means they don't really cut leather) but, again, more like a lined bevelers (let say B893). So I doubt you may have the same with exacto blades.
HellfireJack Report post Posted February 19, 2012 I would imagine a small triangular jewelers file would do the trick.
