sierrastarr Report post Posted May 4, 2012 Hello! I am looking to expand my business and it is time to get a machine that is actually deicated to sewing leather. I currently just use my Juki 98q which is great for clothes but is tearing up all my leather projects. I will be sewing mostly soft leather for jewelry but some thicker pieces for bags and such. Right now I am thinking of getting either the Cobra Class 17 or the Consew 206rb. Can anyone compare these two machines? Or if you have another suggestion it would be greatly appreciated. Art Report post Posted May 4, 2012 The Cobra 17 does not have needle feed but does have walking feet. If you are thinking of a 206rb, then get the Cobra 18, it does have needle feed in addition to a servo motor and speed reducer. You need to have the smooth feet and slow speed, so don't buy an out of the box 206RB5 because they come with clutch motors and no speed reduction. I think this will give me more freedom in branching out into sewing more bags and detailed work. I'm looking at the Techsew 2700 as the majority of work I will be doing will not be with super think or heavy leather. I hope this is the right choice, fingers crossed! My Techsew 2700 is working well for me. My only complaint is with 2 layers of 8 oz leather, to get enough starting torque, as soon as the needle punches through, it is going a little too fast for me. I'm changing to a servo with gear reduction to eliminate that problem, and putting the current servo on my singer flat bed, replacing the clutch motor that dislikes me! Up to you to describe how you are using it and to negotiate the addition of a speed reducer. If you are using it with a couple layers of 4 oz leather and smaller needle, you will be okay.
