Did ya'll see the latest Leather Crafters and Saddlers Journal? On the cover is a is a really nice Sheridan pattern carved by Clay Miller and inside is an article explaining how he carved it. And did you know that he took top honors in the leather carving division at the Central States Fair last week in Rapid City? Congrats Clay!!!

Then on the page following Clay's article, Kathy Flanagan (aka Yak killer......oops... Yaklady) has an article on how to do the Mexican round braid on a flat surface. Bet you didn't know she was that talented, I sure didn't! Kathy spent some time demo'ing at the state fair in Colorado last week too. I don't know if she had anything entered in competition there or not, but if she did, she probably took home some ribbons too.

Back to the journal, to go along with the August monthly challenge theme, Al Gould has a couple examples of his finger carving in there. And finally, there is an article by Jan Schoonover on extreme embossing an arabian horse. Jan's the guy that taught me most of what I know about extreme embossing. All in all, this turned out to be a pretty interesting issue. Check it out if you get a chance.

Ernie,

Thanks!! I agree this is one of the best issues ever, But I may be a little biased about that!!lol If any one does their own version of the pattern please post picts here that would be soo neat to see how other people interpret the design. If any one has any questions on the way I carved it I would be happy to answer via pm

thanks

I'm sure that I can't possibly be the first to notice that our Clay M is the leather artist who carved and tooled the cover of the Sept/Oct Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal, and wrote the article about how to tool it, but maybe I can be the first to congratulate him on a really nice piece of work! Nice job, Clay!

Hey you guys,

Thanks I have to admit it is pritty cool!!! I keep singing the words to the "Cover of the Rolling Stone"

ah ha ha I dont believe it... hey Ray, hey Sugar, tell em who we are)

Well, we big rock singers, we got golden fingers, and were loved everywhere we go.

(That sounds like us)

We sing about beauty and we sing about truth at ten thousand dollars a show.

We take all kind of pills to give us all kind of thrills but the thrill weve never known

Is the thrill thatll getcha when you get your picture on the cover of the Leather Crafter and Saddlers Journal.

Rolling Stone wanna see my picture on the cover-

Stone- wanna buy 5 copies for my mother-

Stone- wanna see my smilin face

on the cover of the LC&SJ

Thanks again everyone

ClayM.

Ok Bert,

The cover was pretty cool, but I think the video of you impersonating Dr Hook would be REALLY entertaining. When are we getting video here on the site???????????
